Roger Arthur Fairbert, 95, of Marshfield passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Marshfield Health Services - Three Oaks. Just two days after his beloved wife Arlene.
Joint funeral services for Roger and Arlene will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pittsville at 11am on Saturday, June 10, 2023, with visitation from 9:30 to 11am. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery. Pastor Gary Markworth officiating. Music provided by Ruby Pinter. Military Rites will be provided at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 153 of Pittsville.
Roger was born October 22, 1927, in Wisconsin Rapids to Arthur & Edna (Burkite) Fairbert. He attended schools in Wisconsin Rapids, graduating from Lincoln High in 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent 8 months on the USS Orvetta in Shanghai Harbor. After his honorable discharge he farmed with his father, drove milk truck, and then a school bus route. On August 19, 1950, he married Arlene Larson at St. John's Lutheran in Pittsville.
After the sale of the farm, Roger continued driving school bus and worked for the Pittsville Locker Plant. Then he started working in construction which led to a job with Boson Construction Company, where he worked for 34 years, retiring with the title of Construction Superintendent. He was very proud of the buildings he had a part in building, such as the Marshfield Mall, Marshfield Police Department, The Fine Arts Building and Theater at the University, Christ Lutheran Church, and the Water and Light Office Building. He also supervised the building of schools and other buildings in Rice Lake, Mauston, Whiting, Spooner, and Wausau.
Roger was a member of the American Legion Post in Pittsville and was recently honored for 75 years of membership. He was also a lifetime member of the Pittsville VFW.
Roger enjoyed camping with his family, and, after he retired: he and Arlene spent 12 winters in Arizona with their camper. Roger loved his great grandchildren very much, teasing and playing with them.
He is survived by his two sons: Dennis (Cheri) and Dean (Bridgett) Fairbert, both of Marshfield; two granddaughters: Nicole and Morgan; and four great-grandchildren: Allison, Hunter, Tyler, and Bailey. Roger is further survived by his sister-in-law Betty Fairbert.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Arlene on June 6, 2023, his sister Grace Allworden and her husband Harry, and a brother: Gordon Fairbert.
