Roger Gene Flygare, age 75, of Federal Way, Washington, passed away on January 27, 2025, from heart failure. Born on February 27, 1949, in Kingman, Kansas, and raised in Homedale, Idaho, Roger graduated from Nampa Senior High School. After graduation, he moved to Federal Way, Washington, where he built a life filled with service, dedication, and love.
A proud veteran, Roger enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam. His commitment to his country and fellow veterans continued throughout his life, serving as past Commander of VFW Post 1741 and frequently assisting veterans in obtaining their benefits.
Roger married the love of his life, Karla Warnke Flygare, on August 15, 1976. They shared 48 wonderful years together, raising their son, Ehren, and creating a loving family with their daughter-in-law, Ashley, and grandchildren, Weston and Isabella.
Professionally, Roger was a pioneering advocate for court reporters. After attending the Chicago College of Commerce for Court Reporting, he founded Flygare and Associates, Inc., a Court Reporting Agency with an office first in Seattle, then Kent, and finally Federal Way. His dedication to the profession led him to serve on the State Advisory Board and the founding committee to certify Court Reporters in Washington State. He was also currently President of Court Reporting United Washington, organizing continuing education seminars.
Roger's contributions extended beyond his professional life. He founded and presided over The Federal Way Public Market Committee, served on the Federal Way Parks Department, helped bring South King County ball fields to the area, supported Fusion, and was a member of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Lions Club Federal Way, serving as a judge for their annual car show. Roger was a T-ball and Little League coach and mentored at Decatur High School.
In his free time, Roger loved to fish and cook, often combining these interests with his other love of travel with Karla. He frequently organized barbecues, oyster fries or fishing trips with colleagues and family. He enjoyed smoking salmon and always had some available for friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Sunday, March 2, at 2:00 PM at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S, Federal Way, 98003.
Roger's legacy of service, love, and generosity to his family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Roger Gene Flygare. Your life made a lasting impact, and you will be dearly missed.
