Joan Flygare

Joan Holker Flygare, a resilient beacon of generosity and spirited love, passed away on July 2, 2023, leaving a legacy of enduring faith, profound kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family. Born on October 18, 1941, in Monticello, MN, Joan's journey of life brought her to call places such as Anoka and Maple Grove, Minnesota, and finally, Orem, Utah, home. A reliable pillar in her community, Joan's professional years were spent shaping young minds and hearts as a beloved teacher in elementary and junior high schools.
Joan's generous spirit extended beyond the classroom and into every aspect of her life. A passionate genealogist, she devoted countless hours to exploring family histories, a testament to her belief in the eternal connection of families. Her love for thrifting embodied her spirited zest for life, unearthing treasures that others often overlooked, much like she did with the people she met. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Joan lived by the scripture found in Mosiah 2:17, "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
Joan is survived by her sons, Kurt (Annette) and Scott (Cami), and her grandchildren, Kelsi, Mitch, Ashlee, Sydney, Mercedes, and Aspen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Flygare, her parents, Richard and Isabel Holker, and her brothers, Dickie, Tom, and Ken Holker.
Please join us in celebrating Joan's remarkable life on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 North University Avenue, Provo, Utah, 84604. A viewing will begin at 10:00am MDT, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am MDT. The service will also be available via live stream at https://my.gather.app/remember/joan-flygare. A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm MDT at Orem Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah, 84097.
