Roger Lee Habegger, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born on July 19, 1938, in Monroe, Indiana, he was the son of Sylvan and Lucy (Graber) Habegger. A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Portland, Roger's faith guided him throughout his life. He was very involved with Gideons International, sharing his passion for service well into his later years. Roger dedicated much of his life to the Portland community, retiring after a long career with Central Soya and serving on the Portland City Council, as well as contributing to numerous local organizations. In his leisure time, Roger found joy in woodworking, with model vehicles being his favorite creations. He was also an avid golfer and a loyal fan of the MSU Spartans and Detroit sports teams. Roger will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 57 years, Shirley Habegger; and brother, Alan (Carole) Habegger. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sheri (John) Brundage of Clarkston and Gayle (Paul) Coates of Zeeland; grandchildren, Stephanie, Katie, Rachel (Jacob), Lauren (Matt), Nathan, and Kyle; great-granddaughter, Evelynne; and siblings, Loren (Twila) Habegger and Nancy Habegger.
The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Gary Coleman at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Visitors are invited to pay their respects beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Portland Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the First Baptist Church, Portland. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International in honor of Roger. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
