Roger Wayne Hamrick
Roger Wayne Hamrick, age 80, of Hibbing, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
He was born in Shelby, N.C., October 7, 1942, to Archie and Ruby (Smith) Hamrick. Following graduation from high school Roger joined the Navy, he served aboard the USS Mississinewa and was honorably discharged just as the Vietnam War was starting. Following his discharge from the military he attended school at the Cleveland County Technical Institute, graduating with a degree in Police Science and then worked briefly at a correctional facility. Roger worked at a number of different places in his youth including, Fiber Industries, Stouffers in South Carolina and he also worked as a pipefitter in Kansas at the nuclear plant and at an oil refinery in Texas, for most of his career he was an over the road truck driver. In 1986 he was joined in marriage to Katie (Kathleen Dixon) Sirjord in Shelby, N.C. In 1988 Roger and Katie moved to Hibbing. Roger was a member of the Masons Lodge #0202, the Hibbing Rifle Club, the VFW, a Bass Fisherman's Club and the Boondockers Hunting Shack.
In his spare time Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Roger never met a stranger; he had the gift of gab and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Hamrick, Hibbing, Minn., son, Rod (Shae) Stephens, Pace, Fla., stepsons, Jeffery (DaNeil) Sirjord, Hibbing, Jesse (Kelly) Sirjord, Hibbing, daughter, Kelli (David) Smith, Derry, N.H., brother, Joe (Tami) Hamrick, Shelby, N.C., grandchildren, Cameran (Amy) Christensen, Bridgtte (Camon) Wiscaver, Julia (Sean) Thompson, Ashton Stephens, Caitlin Joseph, Haley Hamrick, Megan Hamrick, Kayleigh Hamrick, Tammy Joseph, Bo Joseph, Brandon Joseph, Brittney Smith, Brian Smith, KeKe (Ryan Stephenson) Sirjord, Ruby Schaefer, and Zane Schaefer, 11 great-grandchildren, ex-wife, Joyce Hamrick, nephew, Kevin Hamrick and niece, Tracey (Justin) Harper.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Ruby, son, David Hamrick, brother, Gary Hamrick and his nephew, Chad Hamrick.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2023, at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the 4:00 p.m. service at the funeral home.
