Roger Hogan Obituary

HUDSON FALLS – Roger W. Hogan, Sr., 93, a life-long resident of Hudson Falls, passed away early Sunday morning, January 18, 2026 at his home, surrounded by family.

Roger was born on November 22, 1932 in Hudson Falls to the late John J. and Catherine (Cruickshank) Hogan. He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Niagara University.

Roger married the former Margaret "Sookie" VanWie on February 20, 1954 at St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage before she passed away on August 24, 2014. After college, he went to work in accounting at the General Electric Company in Fort Edward. But soon his services were needed at the family farm, where he managed the books and accounts as well as delivering the milk to local families. Roger then went back to work at General Electric in the quality control department, where he eventually retired.

Roger thrived on giving back to his community and served on many civic boards and organizations. He volunteered as the St. Joseph's CYO Basketball Coach, served on the Kingsbury Town Council and as the Town Supervisor, the Lake George Park Commission, Adirondack Community College Board, Hudson Falls School Board, and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Tournament Committee. While serving on this committee, he developed their website and online live score reporting program. Roger had a tremendous love for the game of basketball and interacted with many professional basketball associates from his college years.

Roger will also be remembered for his beautiful voice and love of music. He sang at numerous weddings, funerals and other events throughout his lifetime.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is predeceased by a son-in-law, Donald S. Marry; his brothers and sisters, Dalton Hogan (Marie), Cay Delaney (Charlie), Christian McCaffrey (Joe), Jean Ryan (Charlie), Frank Hogan (Ruth), James Hogan, Jack Hogan (Jeanne), Richard Hogan (Betty), Leonard Hogan (Darlene), Pat Hogan (Cathy), Bob Hogan (Colleen), and Judy Hogan; and his brothers-in-law, Eddie and Ron Sharrow.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Marry, Frank Hogan (Cindy), Judy Hogan, Roger Hogan, Jr. (Kim) all of South Glens Falls, Mark Hogan (Rob Saba) of Saratoga Springs, and Peter Hogan of Hudson Falls; his sisters-in-law, Betty Sharrow of Hudson Falls, and Joan Hogan of Auburn, NY; brothers-in-law, Dan VanWie (Wickie) of South Glens Falls, Bill Sharrow of Granville, and Tim Sharrow of Florida; 14 grandchildren, Sean Marry (Lori), Ryan Jean Marry (Rick Bauer), Meghan Theis (Kurt), Caitlin Hogan (Reuben Dacher Shapiro), Kevin Kill (Sarah), Julia Cheney (Todd), Monica Hogan (Troy), Keith Hogan (Jordan), Liz LaPage (Cody), Matthew Hogan, Christian Hogan, Michael Hogan (Tasha), Michael Archambault, Ashley Archambault (Ryan), and Ben Hogan; 24 great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James Ebert.

Rite of committal will take place in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Edward.

Roger believed that no child should go to school hungry or without the school supplies necessary to get a good education. Therefore, memorial donations may be made to The Regional Food Bank specifying Hudson Falls Backpack Program.

Arrangements are under the care of Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. Online remembrances may be made by visiting www.carletonfh.net.

Hello, Hogan Family!
We only learned of Roger´s passing at Mass this morning. If any Family member was present, you heard how off-guard I was when I read his name. I apologize for misspeaking his first name. What my wife and I do know is we felt his presence in our years as HSCSD students and then as a senior high school teachers. And we know how much he impacted our small town community. Like everyone who knew him, Pamela and I know HF is fortunate to call him a valued native son.

My condolences to the entire Hogan family during this very difficult time. Your dad was a real class act. I have so many fond memories of Uncle Roger and the wonderful times that our families spent together. I like to believe there is a fun filled Hogan, Cruise, and Ashley Reunion going on in heaven right now. One of my fondest memories of your dad is when he sang at my wedding. He was blessed with such an amazing voice. One of the funniest moments I remember sharing with your dad was when he convinced me to stop sucking my thumb. He told me a fictional story that made me quit cold turkey. I wish Scott and I could be there on Saturday, but the weather is going to prevent us from making the trip. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless.

My sincere condolences go out to all the Hogan families and friends of Roger. I will always remember the early 60´s when Roger used to come up to my bedroom on Clark Street and wake me to help him deliver milk from the family farm.
God Bless him and may he rest in peace.
