Roger Hughes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leonard Memorial Funeral Home & Cremations - Glen Ellyn on Feb. 8, 2026.
Roger Brent Hughes, 72, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, passed away on February 4, 2026. His sudden passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who loved him.

Roger was born on June 2, 1953, in Manhattan, Kansas, to James and Evelyn Hughes, and was the younger brother of Jim Hughes. He grew up in Addison, Illinois, where he spent his time on the wrestling team, playing baseball, and collecting comic books.

Roger attended Western Illinois University, where he fell in love with his wife of 47 years, Clara. They were married on September 23, 1978. He earned his doctorate in psychology and founded Hughes Consultants, where he worked for many years and was known for his integrity and dedication.

He loved playing bass guitar with his bands, One Night Only and the Hip Replacements. He was active in many sports, including softball, basketball, and golf, and was an avid fan of Chicago sports teams. He and Clara enjoyed hiking across the National Parks, which inspired a lifelong love of nature in their children. He always found time to play and had a deep love of travel. He was especially dedicated to social justice issues and worked tirelessly for DuPage United, among other volunteer efforts.

Those who knew him will remember him for his love, quiet strength, and witty humor.

Above all, Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Clara; his children, Shannon (Ty) and Elliott (Farrah); his cherished grandchildren, Juniper, JamesElliott, and Archie; his brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, mother, and older brother, and is now reunited with them.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, February 12 from 4-8pm at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, IL

A Celebration of Life Service and lunch will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 11am at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, 535 Forest Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. All are invited to a luncheon afterwards.
