Publish in a newspaper

Roger Eugene Wingfield Sr., lovingly known as "Joe," was born in Logan, West Virginia on May 2, 1952. He was a courageous man known for his charismatic personality, a loving father, and a witty friend. His life was a testament to the words of Mark Twain, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started." Joe, with his adventurous spirit, started early and never looked back. From his birthplace in Logan, he grew up in Washington, D.C., where he attended Shaw JHS and graduated from Cardozo HS. He lived in D.C. majority of his life and eventually moved to Columbus, Ohio, 14 years ago to be with and assist his elderly mother. Joe was a hardworking man, dedicated to his work as a truck driver, and retired from Cox Automotive Group (Manheim of Columbus) after 15 years of service. He was not defined solely by his occupation, but also by his diverse interests. His love for fishing, working on cars, watching football and boxing matches, spending time with his beloved dog "Blue" and spending time with family and friends was evident to anyone who knew him. He was also known for his knack of throwing unforgettable parties back in the day. His charisma and wit were infectious, making him a beloved figure in his community. Above all, what mattered most to Joe was his family. He was the proud father of Shontaya Redd Roger Eugene Wingfield Jr., Katrice Wingfield, Roderick Goodson, Jermaine Wingfield(Erica Wingfield)and Shonnetta Wingfield. His love for his family was a beacon that guided his actions and shaped his life. Roger has been survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Seabon Wingfield, his mother, Vernictta Jackson, and his siblings Seabon Wingfield Sr., Hattie Johnson, Eddie Wingfield, and Rudolph Wingfield. We invite you to celebrate the life of Roger "Joe" Wingfield Sr. and share your favorite memories of him. Please visit the memorial page where you can leave your thoughts, share stories, and upload photos that capture the essence of this charismatic, loving, and witty man who touched so many lives.
