Roger Kehrt Obituary

Roger Lawrence Kehrt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, after bravely fighting cancer, surrounded by the love of his family, and with his wife holding his hand. He was 78 years old. Roger was born on December 3, 1946, and spent his early years in the small town of Cadiz, Kentucky, where he began a life marked by integrity, service, and heart. In his junior year of high school, he returned to Bullitt County, Kentucky, and later graduated proudly from Mount Washington High School. A proud graduate of Georgetown College, Roger earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1968. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He served honorably in Korea and returned stateside as a First Lieutenant, training both Laotian and Vietnamese officers at Fort Knox. His dedication to duty, leadership, and humility were hallmarks of his military service.

After completing his time in the Army, Roger transitioned into public accounting- a field that allowed his intelligence, work ethic, and people-first mindset to shine. He also worked in the cable television industry and was elected President of the Kentucky Cable Association, a role in which he served with vision and commitment. Roger earned his MBA from the University of Kentucky, became a licensed CPA, and eventually founded his own accounting practice. For 37 years, he cared deeply for his clients-not just as clients, but as friends. He was the kind of CPA who remembered birthdays, asked about your grandkids, and made tax season feel a little lighter with a well-timed joke and a warm smile.

Roger was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1971, he served as a deacon and taught the two-year-old Sunday school class for more than 40 years, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Roger." Children and their parents remember him for his joy and kindness. Even after his cancer diagnosis, Roger remained far more concerned about the lives of others than his own. He wanted to know what was going on with you-how your family was, how your job was going, what your kids were up to. His selflessness never wavered. His kindness never dimmed. Above all else, Roger was devoted to his family. He was the loving husband of Glinda Kehrt for 56 beautiful years. He was endlessly proud of his children, Roger Kehrt (Shannon) and Rachel Hammond (Mark), and beamed with joy over his grandchildren: Ellie Hammond, Evan Hammond, Harrison Kehrt, and Carson Kehrt. He never missed a chance to share their accomplishments, large or small. They were his pride and joy, and he made sure everyone knew it. Roger also leaves behind his brother, Randy Kehrt (Bettie), and a wide circle of extended family, friends, church members, clients, and all those lucky enough to have crossed paths with him. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road is in charge of the arrangements.

Earlier today

I worked with Roger in the early 80s in cable television. His integrity and leadership provided this very young man with a true mentor. He will be missed.

Yesterday

Roger was a wonderful person. When I think of the word "cheerful" I think of Roger. He was our accountant, and as the obituary said, he made tax season lighter. My husband Josh and I knew that Roger would know what to do. He took great care of us.

Rachel, I´m so very sorry for the loss of your father. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Since he knew we were classmates in graduate school, colleagues, and friends, Roger loved to give us updates and share pictures of you and your family. But he made sure to be fair and so he would share about your brother´s family as well. Josh and I will miss your dear, dear father.

Roger was a good human, co-worke and friend. He was quick to make a stranger into a friend. My condolences to Glinda, Roger, Rachel and their families.

Roger was our CPA for over 15 years. We adored him and he always made me laugh. Our son attended Trinity with Harrison and hey never forgot it. He was amazing CPA and an even better human! I´ll miss him dearly. Prayers and hugs to his wife Glinda and his precious children and grandchildren.
