On Tuesday April 8th, 2025, at 4:55 pm Roger Joesph Kent passed away peacefully with his daughter Johanna by his side. His family will miss him greatly.
Roger was born on June 29, 1937, at Huggins Hospital to Helen (Rossitter) and Donald Kent of Wolfeboro NH.
Roger attended Carpenter School and was later a graduate from Brewster Free Academy in 1955. He served in the military and was a proud Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne.
Roger was an avid hiker and skier. He was very proud that he had skied until he was 80 years old.
Roger was known to have an assortment of dogs over the years including a Boston Terrier and Huskies. In his later years he had two dogs that were special to him, Honey and his best dog Goldefoot.
Anyone who knew Roger knew about his love of motorcycles. Bultacos, Ducati's, or Honda he liked them all, but his favorite was BMW. He even acquired a side car for his BMW when Johanna was too small for the bike and you could see the two of them travelling to the track, around the lake and even up Mt. Washington. He loved to teach people how to ride. He raced trial bikes and had screws placed in his ankle's years later as proof of that. His last touring bike was his R1100S on which he proudly rode the Blue Ridge Parkway and all of New England.
Roger wore many hats over the years from dishwashing at Dockside to waiting tables at the famous Polcari's North End Restaurant in Boston, serving his most favorite dish, Fra Diavolo. A salesman at Honda of Boston to working for the USPS delivering mail in the Wonalanacet area. Roger even drove the Zamboni at Pop Whalen Area for almost two decades. The job he was most proud of was his work at Bald Peak Colony Club where he spent over 50 years serving generations of families. Roger stood ready to serve his customers' homes night and day, summer or winter, critiquing the mower lines on the ridge or checking the houses in all sorts of weather, always ready to answer any requests large and small. He was able to employ and teach many young (and old) men and women how to properly care for grounds, creating a steppingstone for dozens of people to learn this trait and make a living out of it.
Roger was well known to both his son Brian and his daughter Johannas' sporting companions, mostly because he was always there. Willing to travel 10s, or 100s, or 1000s of miles just to show them support. Whether he was sweltering in the pits of the racetracks timing laps on pit row or braving a Nor'easter to lead a caravan of players to a hockey rink, Roger was there.
He was also a proud grandfather. His eldest grandson Cory was lucky enough to spend a great deal of time at the racetrack with his grandfather. Holidays were always special in Wolfeboro with the 4th of July being a memorable holiday in the front yard watching the parade on Main St. Cory made Roger very proud by being the third generation to follow the footsteps of motorcycle rider.
His grandson Nicholas spent a lot of time with his grandfather checking houses, working with him and for him and later on was very helpful to his grandfather helping with tasks that were important to Roger such as stacking wood and shoveling. Roger was very proud when Nicholas took a job as a landscaper. Lillian, his granddaughter, held a special spot in Roger's heart, he was very proud of her athletics and would show his support by regularly driving her to or showing up to games far and wide. She also spent a lot of time with her grandfather as a child and enjoyed regular road trips to LL Bean as it was a favorite past time of Rogers to shop, but most specifically there.
Audrey Cline and Roger were best friends for 35 years; during the early years Roger, Audrey, Johanna and Allison were a family of four. Many good road trips were had towing a motorcycle trailer along with every "luxury" camping accoutrement possible to pack.
Roger is predeceased by his son, Darin Micheal Kent. Darin was born on December 21st, 1962. A young wild child who took on Roger's love for motorcycles and skiing his life was taken from him on January 21st, 1971, at the young age of 9 of a rare cancer. Our family asks that donations be made to the Children's Cancer Research at
https://childrenscancer.org/ in leu of flowers.
Roger lived a long life full of adventures and if you had the chance to know him then you probably had the chance to hear some of his amazing fun-filled tales.
