Roger Kinney Obituary

Roger Kinney
Born: January 23, 1952 in Aurora, IL
Died: February 15, 2026 in Peoria, IL
Roger Alan Kinney of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the age of 74.
Roger was born on January 23, 1952, in Aurora, Illinois, to Emery Gene "Sandy" and Lorene "Sis" (Watson) Kinney. Raised in Leland, Illinois, he looked back fondly on his childhood, cherishing the memories of growing up alongside his brother and sister.
A tirelessly hard worker, Roger held various jobs throughout his life but was primarily known for his career as a welder at Caterpillar. He was a man of principle who believed deeply in protecting workers' rights and was a strong advocate for the union. During labor strikes, Roger refused to sit idle; he identified new opportunities to ensure his family was provided for. It was during one such strike that he took a position as a CNA at Ottawa Pavilion. Demonstrating his relentless dedication, he continued to hold down both jobs for many years to support his loved ones.
As a single father, Roger made countless sacrifices. Despite the demands of working multiple jobs, he poured whatever free time he had into his children. He shared his love for basketball and tennis with them whenever his schedule permitted, even volunteering to coach their teams on the occasions he was able.
It was through his work at Ottawa Pavilion that he met Cathy. They were married in 1998, and Cathy's family became a central and cherished part of his world.
Roger was a giver in the truest sense. He felt a deep connection to the book The Giving Tree, and his life was a reflection of that story. He devoted himself to providing for those around him, and his efforts and contributions will continue to support his loved ones even now that he is gone. Outside of his work and family life, Roger found his greatest joy outdoors, spending many happy hours fishing.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Emery Gene "Sandy" and Lorene "Sis", and his infant son, Justin.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; her children: Shannon (Seth), Stephanie, and Shane (Rina); his children: Chastity (Ken), Alan (Marcy), and Adam (Celia); and his siblings, Marty and Mary Jo.
He was a proud grandfather to Malayna, Macy, Nolan, Adlai, Leland, Jachin, Memphis, Stellan, Lillia, Callie, and Mark. He also held a very special place in his heart for Jenna and Marhi.
There will be a family celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.Beveragefamilyfh.com
