In Loving Memory

Roger Dale Longcrier

It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Dale Longcrier, who went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2025, in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by his devoted family.

Roger was born on August 18, 1952, in Wasco, California. He lived most of his life in Tehachapi, where he built not only a beautiful home, but a beautiful life filled with faith, family, love, and hard work.

Roger was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather (papa), brother, and friend. The love of his life was his wife, Debbie Thompson- Longcrier, with whom he shared countless adventures and a lifetime of cherished memories.

He was the proud father of:

Nathan Longcrier and his wife Monica, and loving papa to Jacob and Montana.

Amber Longcrier, and beloved papa to his late grandson, Caden Nelson.

Sarah Bekker and her husband Emjee, and treasured papa to Emahlynn.

He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Martin, and many extended family members and dear friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Longcrier and Ruth Longcrier-Watson, his stepfather, Thomas Watson, his in-laws, Leroy and Helen Thompson, and his grandson, Caden Nelson.

Family was everything to Roger. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones and was present for countless special moments, sports games, and celebrations. He was a steady provider, a source of unwavering support, and the rock of his family.

Roger had a remarkable gift for building and creating. He could fix or craft just about anything and was especially known for his exceptional woodworking skills. Over the years, he built stunning homes, beautiful custom cabinets, exquisite furniture, and hand-crafted recurve bows. Roger's nephew, Cale Thompson, once said "Uncle Roger can build the world if he has the wood".

He worked for California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for 28 years: one year as a correctional officer and 27 years as a carpenter. He brought skill and dedication to every project he touched.

After retirement, Roger and Debbie founded RL Spoons, where he hand-carved one-of-a-kind wooden creations, including spoons, spurtles, cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and salad hands. He delighted in sharing these masterpieces as gifts with those he loved.

During the Vietnam era, Roger was drafted and proudly served three years in the United States Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal. His military service reflected his deep sense of duty, honor, and love for his country.

Roger was a true outdoorsman who loved hiking, fishing, hunting, biking, water skiing, and camping with family and friends. Some of his most memorable adventures were shared with his son, Nathan, and grandson, Jacob. Together they hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail, completed the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike, climbed Half Dome at Yosemite, summited Mt. Whitney, and rode in the Tehachapi Gran Fondo. In celebration of his 65th birthday, Roger ran an astonishing 65 miles in the Nanny Goat Ultra Marathon

Roger and Debbie also loved traveling. Together, with their children, grandchildren, and friends, they explored destinations across the United States and Europe. They loved going on cruises and traveling in their RV. They especially cherished Spring Break RV trips to Pismo Beach, a tradition that created lasting memories for their grandchildren and nephew. A lifelong dream was fulfilled when Roger witnessed the Northern Lights during a trip to Alaska.

Roger was a music enthusiast and attended over 50 concerts throughout his life with Debbie by his side. He loved classic rock from the 1960s and 70s. He also loved old cars, hot rods, baseball, and animals.

Whether it was houseboating at Lake Don Pedro, camping at Lake San Antonio, visiting the Cambria Christmas Lights, or riding on the Polar Express, Roger had a gift for creating unforgettable memories for his family.

To know Roger was to love him. He was a man of faith, humility, kindness, and integrity. He lived his life by example. He was always ethical, hardworking, and devoted to his family. His impeccable moral compass guided every decision, and he was always willing to help others.

Roger was deeply respected by everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through his beloved family, his treasured friendships, and the countless lives he touched with kindness and love.
