On January 11, 2025, Roger Mundorff died as he had lived, surrounded by the love of his family.
He married Paula in 1963 and together they nurtured a family of five children and eight grandchildren. To speak with him was to know his immense pride in each child and grandchild. Each of them grew up enveloped in his love and resolute support.
Born in Portland in 1940 he spent his life immersed in Oregon's legal and golf communities. He often recounted his boyhood with his three sisters in Eastmoreland, where he attended Cleveland High School. As a kid he devised ways to spend as much time as possible on the golf course. For more than six decades he played regularly at Eastmoreland and other local golf courses where he was known for his skills on the link as well as his keen humor.
His father Lowell was a prominent State Judge, who died when Roger was a teen. His mother Claire also earned a law degree and was among the pioneering women who integrated the federal judiciary. Roger followed, earning his law degree from Lewis and Clark and then building a general practice in Milwaukie focusing on domestic and estate law. As a lawyer he was known for his fierce intellect, compassion, and advocacy for those who most needed it. He was generous with his time and abilities and was a willing mentor to younger attorneys in Clackamas County.
He served his community as a board member for the Clackamas County Fire Department, and Providence Hospital, a Judge Pro Tem for Clackamas County, as well as a night court judge in Milwaukie where he adjudicated traffic violations and small claims. The latter, in particular, served as subject matter for his near-endless repertoire of absurd and hilarious stories. His life touched many and he will be missed by all who know him.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Paula to whom he was married for 61 years; sisters, Frances, Meredith and Cay; children, Kurt, Laura, Amy, Lisa and Emily; and 8 grandchildren, Max, Grace, Helen, Peter, Merret, Harlan, Sarah and Theo.
There will be a small family gathering to celebrate his life.
