Roger John Myhre

Roger J. Myhre, 97, passed away quietly on August 25th, 2024, at Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community in Muskego, Wisconsin. He was born on March 21, 1927 in Lake Park, Minnesota.
He is preceded in death his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Almira (nee Thompson) Myhre. Also preceding him were his parents, John and Otillie (nee Dittus) Myhre; brother Gordon Myhre and sister-in-law Janice (nee Myhra) Myhre.
Surviving him are three adult children, Laura (Mark) Nelson, Franklin, WI; Sue (Scott) Hagerty, Spokane, WA and John (Sandy) Myhre, Fayetteville, NC; seven grandchildren, Erika (Joseph) Jungbauer, Windsor, WI; Stephanie (Evan) Walton, Hales Corners, WI; Erin, Shannon and Brendan Hagerty, all of Spokane, WA; Kayla (Tyler) Hair and Taylor Myhre, Fayetteville, NC and five great-grandchildren, Weston and Wyatt Jungbauer, Wren and Theodore Walton and Riley Hair. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Roger was a man of deep, strong Christian faith and was more than prepared to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He also spent nine long, lonely years without Almira by his side and so desired to be reunited with her in heaven. Love of family and relationships were paramount and guided his daily life. Roger was a voracious reader and loved to study, especially in his later years. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage which prompted several trips to Norway as well as many lutefisk and lefse dinners. He loved catching "sunfish" almost as much as eating them!
His father's illness prompted Roger to leave high school early to operate the family dairy farm. He gladly accepted the obligation but did have regrets about missing out on furthering his education, an omission that he was able resolve over time. Roger considered farming the most noble of occupations and took the role of steward of the land and livestock very seriously. He treasured the time he had with his father engaging in long, deep conversations of a philosophical nature during this period. He continued operating the farm until his brother "Gordy" was able to take over, after which he volunteered to serve in the United States Air Force in 1951. His knowledge of mechanical farm equipment and maintenance acquitted him well in the Air Force where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant as a Flight Engineer. In 1956, after four plus years of active duty, he joined the Reserves where he served until his retirement from the 440th Airlift Wing in 1977 as Senior Master Sergeant. Roger also worked at Twin Disc in Racine in the service/training department for many years. After leaving there, Komatsu Dresser sought him out to write a service manual for the Twin Disc torque converters used in their mining equipment.
Roger's skills in instruction and training also served him well at Atonement Lutheran Church in Muskego where he was a member and faithful attendee for over fifty years. He led countless bible studies, mentored others and chaired numerous groups and committees over the years. Both he and Almira loved serving as "Grandparents in Residence" at Lutherdale Bible Camp in Elkhorn, WI. He also served as Troop Chaplain for the Boy Scouts.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to all the staff at Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community for their compassionate care during Roger's time there.
On September 20th, 2024 a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am at Atonement Lutheran Church, S70 W16244 Martin Drive, Muskego, WI 53150. Visitation to begin at 9:30 am with a luncheon following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, Lutherdale Bible Camp, USAF Scholarship Fund, Atonement Lutheran Memorial Fund or the charity of your choosing.
