Roger August Paul, age 90 years and 11 days, a beloved husband, dad, and grandpa left our world with his family by his side on Monday, November 25, 2024 after reaching not only his 90th birthday but also their 66th wedding anniversary. While we lost our most beloved, many have lost a friend and loved one in him.
Roger was born November 14, 1934 in Bear Creek, WI to the late Irvin and Clarice (Reinert) Paul. He grew up in the Bear Creek area, graduating from Bear Creek High School with the Class of 1953. After high school, Roger joined the US Army, serving from 1953-1955. In 1957, Roger met Karen at Club 45. Together they married and moved to the farm that they purchased and still reside in today. Together they had 3 children.
His passion of racing began in 1959 when Karen bought him his first race car, a 1949 Oldsmobile coupe for $75.00. This began the legacy of #95, the "Flying Farmer" which ended in 1980, as he cruised into racing retirement. Roger raced at many dirt and asphalt tracks in Northeast Wisconsin and other states. He was a 3-time Shawano Speedway track champion in addition to earning other track championships. He was inducted into the Shawano Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009.
Roger had a love for farming that lasted throughout his life. He truly was a steward of the land, focusing on dairy, corn, soybeans and cabbage. His passion for farming continues on through the work of his family. Roger wanted to work the land and continued to offer his assistance on the farm until the very end.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Karen (Horky); son, Chad (Amy); daughters, Melissa (Tim) Kasson and Amy (Jesse) Long; his grandchildren; Brady, Claire, Ava, Harper and Juice, as well as, brother-in-law, Jim Heiser. Roger will be missed by his 4-legged friend Tucker, his best bud and companion.
Roger was preceded to heaven by his parents; two brothers, Marlin "Gus" (Carmen) Paul and Norman "Gabby" (Beatrice) Paul and sisters, Carol Heiser and Margaret "Margie" (Harvey) Pues.
The funeral for Roger will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sugar Bush with Rev. Caleb Rothfuss officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Full military honors will be held immediately following the service at the church. Burial will be at New Maple Creek Cemetery, Maple Creek.
The family would like to thank ThedaCare At Home Hospice team for their warm, caring and loving attention. Abbie from Arc Angels is one of a kind. We all thank her for her wonderful care and friendship she provided to Roger and his family. Additionally, we want to thank Pastor Caleb Rothfuss for his continuous affirmation of faith and providing emotional support.
Happy heavenly homecoming Roger, we will miss you.
