Roger E. Perkins died after a short illness, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the age of 94. He was the husband of the late Nancy (O'Donnell) Perkins. They were married for over 67 years.
He was born in Rockport, MA, to the late Woodbury "Pete" Perkins and Lucy (Francis) Perkins. Roger graduated from Gloucester High School. He was active in the ROTC band and shop program. He received a full scholarship to the General Motors Institute of Technology, now known as Kettering University in Flint, MI.
Roger enlisted in the Navy in December 1950 and served proudly in the Seabees until September 1954. He was the owner of the Granite Garage in Rockport for many decades and could also be found out lobstering or boating on the weekends.
It was a life well lived. Roger was devoted to his family, his community, and his country. Throughout the years he was a member of many organizations. He was a member of the Rockport Fire Dept., Speedwell Engine Company #2 from 1958-1989 serving as the driver and later as Captain. He was a member of the Rockport Firemen's Association, Assistant Harbormaster, in charge of Granite Pier, chairman of the Granite Pier Committee, member of the Rockport Masons Ashler Lodge, American Legion Post 98, the Rockport Legion Band and the Thatcher Island Association just to name a few.
Roger is survived by his daughter, June (Perkins) Sanfilippo and her husband Dominic of Rockport; his treasured grandchildren, Madison (Sanfilippo) Nardelli, her husband John; Nicholas Sanfilippo and his great-grandson, Anthony Nardelli, all of Lyman, Maine.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00am at Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Rockport Firemen's Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2, Rockport, MA 01966; the Thatcher Island Association, PO Box 73, Rockport, MA 01966, or the American Legion Post, 98, PO Box 117, Rockport, MA 01966.
