Roger Rettig Obituary

Roger Alan Rettig, 67, of Butler, went to be with his Savior on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1957, in Butler to the late Alvin G. Rettig and Bertha H. (Herold) Rettig.
Roger graduated from Butler High School, and he worked for TW Phillips/Peoples Natural Gas Company for 41 years. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Butler. Music was one of his greatest passions, and he sang in the church choir and the praise band. He also played for years on the church softball team, in which he received a hall of fame jacket for his outstanding devotion and dedication to the team. Roger was an avid Steelers fan and Pirates fan and attended the Pirates fantasy camp in Bradenton, Fla.
Roger's main goal in life was to share Jesus with anyone he came in contact with, from the mailman to the doctors and nurses who cared for him through his nine-year cancer journey. He fought the battle and won. He is now with his Lord and Savior. Roger will be deeply missed by his loving family, who cherish memories of the countless moments they shared together. Always the life of the party, Roger had an unwavering presence at every family gathering, celebration and milestone event. His infectious enthusiasm and joyful spirit brought laughter to all those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Voelker) Rettig; his children, Chelsea (Clint) Werth, Edward (Samantha) Silvis, Chantel (Shawn) Moore and Mark (Jessie) Hitchcock; and his 12 grandchildren. His brother, Robert (Carol) Rettig of Maryland; and sister, Bonnie (George) Isovitsch of North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Bertha Rettig; his sister, Marge Meindel; two brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a niece.
RETTIG - A celebration of life for Roger Rettig, who died Sept. 23, 2024, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 420 N. Main St., Butler. Arrangements are entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

I will always be grateful for the friendship that I shared with Roger over the years. Roger was a wonderful friend even when it wasn't necessarily popular. His laugh was contagious. His kindness radiated through the twinkle in his eyes. I will miss him. It's not good bye dear friend it is just I will see you later.

I worked for TW Phillips and would see him when I would visit the warehouse , he amazed me as he had the place spotless and organized, he also knew every part number off by heart . He was a very soft spoken man . Never heard him raise his voice. My prayers are with his family and friends.

So sorry to hear this. Roger was a good man. I miss those days of playing church league softball against you. You were the ultimate competitor. I remember going to a Pirate game and seeing him on the field. He spent a week at Pirates fantasy camp and they announced all the participants. Enjoyed our times together. RIP my friend.

Roger was one of our "leaguers" in our youth group at St, Mark's who the Lord showed through his loving heart. Always a smile, always kindness and love for the Lord. We've prayed him through the last 9 years and now he stands on "home plate" in the arms of Jesus.

I met Roger back when I was a snack aide at Concordia. He was taking care of his mom and from the moment I met him and his family i knew they were such good people. I will cherish everyone memory of Roger from his joking with me, stealing my snacks, and giving me advice. He taught me to always bring God into your life and to be kind. I will miss him dearly and his wonderful personality! I´m so blessed to have met him and the rest of his family. I will hold close the memories I have and I know he is in a better place. I know he is probably eating his snack with his ball cap he always wore. Thank you for coming into my life it is truly a blessing

Roger was such a wonderful man. As kids, we played outside, went trick or treating, had fun while our parents played cards. He was a great cousin. My mom always kept me informed how he and Nancy were doing. He came to an anniversary party for my daughter in law's parents last June.
I am so thankful that we got to catch up. It was great visiting with Roger and Nancy. Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of your dad, granddad, brother and husband. Janet and Daryl Sperring
