Roger Richins Obituary

Roger Orville Richins

1945 ~ 2025

Fruit Heights, UT-Our dear Roger Orville Richins passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 25, 2025 after fighting Parkinson's disease for over 23 years. His motto was: Keep moving and fighting! Although the effects of Parkinson's took his life, it never stopped him from living, and it never kept him down.

Roger was born on June 20th, 1945 to Rehan Rogers and Orville Fowler Richins in Ogden, Utah. He spent his youth fishing, hunting, and playing basketball. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School.

Roger served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Frankfurt, Germany where he loved the European people and culture. He later returned with his family for three years with his accounting firm, living in Belgium.

After his mission, Roger met and married the love of his life, Janet Taylor, in the Salt Lake Temple on March 27th, 1970. They were married for 55 years. Together, they enjoyed traveling and being with friends and family.

Roger graduated from Weber State College with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He spent 20 years as a CPA with various national accounting firms then became a partner at Pinnock, Robbins, Posey and Richins. He was appointed to the Utah State Board of Accountancy in 1985. He served his profession in different capacities, including roles with the Utah State Peer Review Acceptance Committee and the UACPA Peer Review Committee. He chaired the UACPA's continuing education committee and was awarded the 2002 Outstanding CPA in Public Practice award.

Roger was actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his life serving others and his Heavenly Father. He exemplified the scripture "when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God." He is also a great grandson of Aurelia Spencer Rogers, who organized the "First" Primary.

Roger loved his family! He had a fun sense of humor and enjoyed laughing, teasing, and being with his children and grandchildren. He was always supporting them at sports games, competitions, or activities. Roger was happiest driving a four wheeler up any trail in Island Park. He also spent many hours in his yard caring for his beautiful flowers. He will be remembered for his love of ice cream.

Roger was heavily involved in the Parkinson's community and appreciated his association with other friends battling the same disease.

Roger's willingness to help anyone, and his selfless love for his family was truly remarkable. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him especially his wife, Janet, and children: Mylissa (Robert) Weger of Kaysville, Brandon (Jill) Richins of Kaysville, Rachael (Mattthew) Adams of Bothwell, and Shantelle (Robert) Colborn of American Fork and 13 beloved grandchildren (Madeline, Julianna, Caleb, Karly, Michael, Emily, Lindsay, Chase, Bridger, Tanner, Aliyah, Lillian, Hazel). He is also survived by Kaye Steed, Marilyn Taylor (sisters-in-law), and the Miller family. He is proceeded in death by his parents, stepfather Clarence Miller, Nolan and Barbara Richins, and Clair and Judy Barrow.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fruit Heights Stake Center, 170 N. Mountain Road, Fruit Heights. Friends and family may visit on Friday, April 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah and Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fruit Heights Stake Center prior to the services.

His interment is in the Henefer Cemetery.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Robert Miska, Northern Utah Rehabilitation Hospital, and Symbii Home Health and Hospice for their kind and respectful care.

So sorry I missed Rogers funeral!
I was out of town, and now feeling so sad I missed it!
Our family has been so blessed and lifted in so many ways to know and love Roger and Janet and your sweet family! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is what comforts us all at times like this, knowing we will all see each other again! (I wonder if he and Lynn are busily engaged in the work together again!)
We love you Janet and family!
