Roger Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 16, 2025.
Roger Lynn Rogers, 73, passed away in his home after a long illness. He was born in San Angelo, Texas, on June 8, 1951, to William "Woody" and Francis Rogers. He was a graduate of Lake View High School where he proudly cruised around in his turquoise 1967 Mustang. Roger married Cathy Thacker on June 3, 1972, in San Angelo, and they were married for almost 52 years. In November of 1975, they welcomed their one and only child, Carey LaDell Rogers, and she became the center of their world.
Roger worked in maintenance, taking pride in caring for every place he worked. He worked for the City of San Angelo for numerous years and rounded out his career as head of maintenance for Fort Concho. Working for Fort Concho was right up his alley as he was an avid history buff.
In his younger years, Roger was known as a "rock hound" and hunted for arrowheads whenever he had the chance. This led to an impressive collection – one many museums would be jealous of. He loved to share stories of where he found them, what types of tools they were, and to which tribe they likely belonged. If he gave you one of his arrowheads, you knew he cared deeply for you! Later, when hunting them wasn't an option, he enjoyed showing them to his grandsons and even teaching them how to make arrowheads from large chunks of flint he kept handy.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy, just 11 months ago, and his heart has longed to be with her since her passing. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Woody and Francis. Roger is survived by his daughter Carey and husband Bill Peacock, along with their sons – Caleb, Connor, and Carter – the ones who made him "PaPa." He is also survived by his brother Royce and wife Sandy, his sister Darlene, his very special cousin (who was more like a brother) Glen Rogers, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His sidekick, Twister, is already missing her human so, so much.
Carey and Bill would like to extend a special thank you to Nurse Donna and Pastor Green from Angels Care Hospice for their compassionate care and to Glen for doing whatever Roger needed until the very end. You all are appreciated and loved more than you know.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Harriett Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Roger's name to Angels Care Hospice of San Angelo or Meals for the Elderly.
