Roger D. Simpson, 74, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, at home on Friday, November 24, 2023. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday November 28 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Williams of Brown Summit Baptist Church officiating. The burial will follow, at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at their residence.

Roger was born in Rockingham County and lived there  most of his life. Roger served in the US Naval Reserves 3 years with active duty aboard the USS Hunley during 1971-1972. He retired after 25 years of service as Director of Information Services at Rockingham Community College. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed farming, hunting, playing golf, and spending time with his family on their farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Haywood and Allene Simpson, his parents-in-law James and Doris Ellis, and his brother, Donnie Simpson.

 He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kay Ellis Simpson of the home; sons Roger Dalton Simpson II, wife Brooke Simpson of Reidsville, son Christopher Lane Simpson, wife Tiffany Lane Simpson, of Reidsville, grandchildren, Jude Gray Simpson and Taylor Kate Simpson, Alaina-Jo Simpson, Jeremiah Lane Simpson and brothers, Lee Simpson and wife Carolyn of McLeansville, Mike Simpson and wife, Peggy of Kenly, and Pat Simpson and wife, Kathy of McLeansville; and a large extended family.

Condolences may be made to the family at www.wilkersonfuneral.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care, formerly Hospice of Rockingham County.
