Roger was born at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. His parents were Roger I. Smith and Dorothy F. Smith.

He was a Director of Media at Fort Logan Mental Health Center where he used his love of photography, computers, radio, and short wave. He organized several Colorado Media Conferences. He was recognized as Colorado Employee of the year by the governor.

Roger climbed 1400ers and loved camping. He also loved cars and motorcycles. He was a member of a motorcycle group that toured Colorado on the weekends. He helped with weather balloons in Eastern Colorado. He loved the lakes on Grand Mesa in Grand Junction.

He was a drummer in high school which fit him so well as he often set the beat for the rest of us. Glen Miller was a joy to him.

He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Boulder after moving to the front range from Grand Junction.

In Grand Junction he was the Minster of Care for Crossroads United Methodist Church. He was deeply involved in the Academy for Spiritual Direction, Peace Whisper, Contemplative Prayer, and the Road to Emmaus workshops. He went on several mission trips to Central America to rebuild communities there.

Roger will be dearly missed by his sisters:

Margot Zimmerman/Glen and Janine Stanford/Bill; and by his life partner Nancy Jane Moore.
