Roger Soberg, 91 of Barrett, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at Barrett Assisted Living.

Roger Ellsworth Soberg was born on February 5, 1934, in Barrett, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Elvira (Larson) Soberg. He was baptized on March 25, 1934, by Rev. Carl A. Gustafson at Fridehem Lutheran in Barrett. He was Confirmed on July 20, 1947, by Rev. Gene Lund at Bethel Lutheran in Herman. Along with his parents and two sisters, Norma and Virginia, he lived on a family farm near Barrett where his mother's parents, Amanda and John Larson had once lived. He attended school, country and town, in Barrett. As a kid he did a lot of trapping and loved to hunt every day on the farm. In his younger years, he worked for farmers and was a milk hauler around Alexandria. In 1952, he moved to Minneapolis and began working at Honeywell.

On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ardis Swedberg, daughter of Olof and Alpha Swedberg of Hoffman. Three days after their marriage, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. Five sons were born to this union, Mark in 1958, Scott in 1960, Brent in 1961, Lon in 1966, and Kurt in 1968.

After the leave of absence from Honeywell, he returned again to continue working there after his service duty in Germany in 1958, and Reserve meetings following. He was an Expeditor, Tool Planner, and Analyst.

Besides his job at Honeywell, he worked parttime jobs in the evenings and weekends. In 1972, a decision was made to purchase a Standard station in Barrett; and so the home was sold in Coon Rapids and they moved to Barrett. Roger became a fulltime mechanic, repaired radiators, and sold gas, (with help from the boys). He drove school bus for 17 years, and at times he worked for area farmers in the fields. He was a fireman, and on the city council.

In 1981, he sold the station to two of his sons, Scott and Brent. At a later date, Scott became the sole owner. He had a “Used Car” lot, which was located at the Soberg station. He drove truck for Barrett Automatics to pick up and deliver parts, retiring from there in 2005.

As a hobby, he liked collecting old coins, loved to watch NASCAR Racing, and taped every race he watched. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett.

Roger is survived by his five sons, Mark (Pat) Soberg, Scott (Julie) Soberg, Brent Soberg, Lon Soberg and Kurt Soberg; grandchildren Dylan (Jennifer) Soberg, Jenna Soberg, Neil Soberg, Cassie Soberg, Riley (Haley) Soberg; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Brooks and Collin, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elvira; wife, Ardis in 2023; two sisters, Norma (Worell) Norling and Virginia Soberg.

Memorial Service will be at 11AM on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett with visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Peace Lutheran Church, Barrett American Legion or Moments Hospice.
