Roger Arnold Teich, of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his home. He was 85 years old.
Roger was born on November 1, 1938, in Henriette, Minnesota to parents Arnold and Florence (Johnson) Teich. At the age of 1, the family moved to St. Paul where Roger grew up and attended North St. Paul High School, graduating in 1957. As a teenager, Roger worked in a grocery store and over the next 9 years he worked in all areas of the store. Following his passion for art, Roger took a job at Golden Rule where he designed the artwork for newspaper ads, while also attending art school. Next, he took a job at the First Security Bank as a teller. It was during this time that Roger met Geraldine Mullins at a dance in Pine City. They were married on July 6, 1963, at Zion Lutheran church in Pine City. They made their home in St. Paul and were blessed with 3 children.
Roger served in the Minnesota National Guard at Camp Ripley in Little Falls where he worked as a personnel specialist and received his sharpshooter achievement with a perfect score, receiving a handshake from the General. He was discharged as a Specialist E6 after 8 years.
Roger's next job was at Minnesota Plastics where he oversaw machine maintenance but after a workplace accident, he left to use his artist talents again at Honeywell, working as a technical illustrator and making the drawing for an Apollo spacecraft. Roger's next adventure was working as a contractor, building homes in the St. Paul area. He would often team up with his father and brother Gerald, both contractors as well. After 8 years of hard work in construction, Roger bought the mobile home park in Pine City where he used his building skill to make many improvements to the park. He and Gerri managed the park for 5 years, before selling it to semi-retire. They returned to St. Paul while searching for the perfect retirement property to build their final home. They settled on a property near Mora, and Roger started Mora Public Storage. He sold the business in 2020.
Roger and Gerri enjoyed traveling, including trips to Missouri, Florida, and Texas with Tennessee being their favorite travel destination. When time allowed, fishing was a relaxing pastime with family. Roger's building skills extended to his woodshop where he made many beautiful pieces of furniture and home décor. His faith continued with each move to another community and church over the years with Grace Lutheran in Mora being his final home. He enjoyed helping with the newsletter and ushering. Roger will be remembered for his deep love for his family and friends, his enjoyment in visiting and joking around, and for being a Mr. Fix-it for almost anything. He will be dearly missed.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald and Donald.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gerri; children, Wendy (Tim) Moynihan, Dan Teich, and Greg Teich; grandchildren, Laura (Steve) Anderson, Megan Teich, Spencer Teich, and Marisa Teich; sister-in-law Darlene (John) Armstrong; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Military Honors will be provided by the Mora American Legion Post 201 following the service.
A luncheon will follow.
Interment will be held at 1:30pm at the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.
