Roger Velde Obituary
Roger, affectionately known as Pedro to family and friends, was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
He attended Sheboygan North High School where his love of tennis and football began. Immediately out of high school, at 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two years. He returned to Wisconsin to attend the University in LaCrosse where he received a degree in Physical Education and Recreation. Upon graduating, he took a position with the YMCA in Chicago, ultimately retiring as an Executive with the YMCA in Minneapolis.
He and wife Sandy built a beautiful life together over their 64 years of marriage and he felt so grateful for family time and to have found Tellico Village, where he enjoyed an active retirement, was a member of Tellico Village Community Church for 30 years and developed deep friendships in the community.
Pedro was a man with few needs (and words) who felt immensely blessed for all the Lord provided during his time on this earth. He often said, how particularly grateful he was to have found the love of his life in Sandy.
Pedro is preceded in death by his parents and brother and leaves behind wife Sandy, son Mike (Ami), and daughter Tracy (Joann).
We will miss his striking blue eyes, wide smile and warm hugs.
The family would like to thank the Adoration Hospice team out of Sweetwater for their great care in his final days and for all the friends who supported and lightened the load during these last years.
A private family gathering will be held at Community Church columbarium in Tellico Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Church at Tellico Village.
