A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, for Roger Weeres, age 83, who died Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed on the church's website at www.christcatholic.com.
There will be a visitation in the church's gathering space from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Roger was born on July 7, 1939, in St. Cloud, MN to Ambrose and Marie (Binsfield) Weeres. After graduating from the Eden Valley High School in 1958 Roger served his country in the United States Army. He married Joan Meierhofer on September 24, 1960, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Watkins, MN. In 1961, Roger was called back into service during the Berlin Crises by John F. Kennedy for another year. He served with the Red Arrow Division out of Wisconsin and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. In 1967 Roger was hired by the City of Richmond as Chief of Police and in 1998 Roger retired after serving 32 years as Police Chief.
Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling with their 5th wheel camper. Roger also enjoyed relaxing with his wife Joan on their swing and watching the sun set over Horseshoe Lake. Roger was very proud, loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Richmond. He was a member of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association, and the Stearns County Chiefs of Police.
Survivors include his children, Denise (Jeff), Paula (Ray), Kevin (Carolyn), Brian (Joy), Todd (Joanne) Weeres; brother, Wally; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan (2020); parents; sisters, Mary Jane, Delores, Alice, Dorothy; and brother, Ambrose Jr.
