Roger E. "Bunk" Young

Roger Everette "Bunk" Young, son of Margaret Young West, was born on July 13, 1946, in Frederica, Delaware. He departed this life on August 8, 2025.

He received his education at William Henry High School in Dover, Delaware. After graduating from high school, he attended what was then called Delaware State College. He left college early and enlisted in the army for a short period of time, then transferred to Army National Guard. After an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard, he began working at Kraft Foods, where he stayed for approximately four years. Roger then worked as a bus driver and truck driver for various companies. For several years, he worked as a tour bus driver for Pinkett Shore Line Bus Service of Denton Maryland. After 25 years, he retired from Perdue Transportation as an over-the-road truck driver. While at Perdue Transportation, he was awarded a certificate for having no accidents over the course of driving one million miles. His last trucking job was as a part-time employee with RE Calloway Transportation, where he delivered bulk mail at various post offices.

In 1983, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, and they were married for forty-two years. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather who always took care of his home. Coming from a family of skilled carpenters, he built his home from the ground up with the help of some of his cousins. A couple of his favorite sayings, were "Gonna be like your people" and "You from the Show me state." In his early years, he loved to go rabbit hunting. Being the jovial person that he was, one evening he decided to trick his daughter: when she came home, he told her to go to the kitchen and eat something. Knowing that she said she would NEVER eat rabbit, he told her it was some roast beef on the stove. His daughter fixed her a nice plate and started eating. Roger came into the kitchen, and said, "It's good ain't it little girl." His daughter said, YES! Roger then began to laugh like crazy and then said, "I thought you didn't eat rabbit." He told his daughter that it wasn't roast beef, but it was rabbit.

Roger also restored an antique car, a 55' Chevy Bel Air, that he showcased in several car shows and won several first and second-place trophies. He was a long-time past member of Hubert AME Church in Frederica, DE. He was a dedicated member of the William Henry High School Alumni Association. He was very

active with this organization and often led the charge with organizing the parade floats, cars, and motorcycles.

Whenever people stopped by his home, Roger would always offer them a plate of food. One of his favorite dishes was homemade spaghetti.

He was preceded in death by his son, DeShion Abrams, his sister, Katrina West, and his mother, Margaret Young West.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of forty-two years (62 years together), his son, Rodney Young, Sr. (Connie), his daughters, Lenora Young and Denise Dudley, his grand-children, Robert Miller, Rodney Young, Jr (Jamie) Haley Abrams, Nathaniel Dudley, Sierra Dudley, Larry Harris, Jr., Aric Dudley, Destiny Dudley, and Kiauna Dudley. He has eleven great-grandchildren, a dedicated friend who is like a brother, Charlie Ward, Sr, another close friend, Jim Miner (Jean), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
