Joyner's Funeral HomeRoger Young passed away on October 2, 2025, at Duke Hospital. Roger was 75 years old. A funeral service with be held on October 17, 2025, at 6 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2615 Tilghman Road, Wilson, North Carolina. He will be interred in the Jermone Idaho Cemetery.
Roger was born in Wendell, Idaho on July 31, 1950, to Bryon Cline and Frieda Rosella Stratton Young. He was raised in Jerome, Idaho as the sixth of seven children. He loved everything about his home state (“Zion” as he called it) where he learned to hunt, shoot, and ride motorcycles.
Roger was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in Columbus, Ohio from 1970-1972. He married Gloria Sue Workman on March 16, 1973, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Roger attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho where he had the opportunity to learn Computer Science. He worked for many banks throughout Idaho, Utah, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Roger loved spending time with his family. He was always willing to play a game with kids and grandkids, and he cherished weekly phone calls to family. Nothing made him happier than a good joke and lots of laughter.
Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria Sue Young; his children, Heather and Paul Housley, Loren and Barbara Young, Eric and Kate Young, Brett and Sarah Young, and Jennifer and Chase Goddard, his 17 grandchildren, Dallin and Hannah, Kyle, and Grant (Housley), Kaden, Garrett, Madeline, Tessa, Ryan, and Sadie (Young), Zach and Isaac (De la Fuente), Hannah, Rachel, and Andrew (Young), Kalisen, Alexandra, and Kendra (Goddard)and his sisters, Shirley Buttram, Norma Hepworth, Wilma and Devon Scovil, and Helen Rector.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Byron Cline Young; his mother Frieda Rosella Stratton Young, and his brothers, Neal Young and Larry Young.
