Roland Mcalister Ellis, born February 26, 1952, in South Bend, IN, was a man who lived his life with a dedication to service and an unyielding spirit of resilience. He was a beloved father, a respected veteran, and a cherished member of his community. Roland's indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to his family, students, and the community left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him.

Roland's journey began in South Bend, and he was a proud graduate of LaSalle High School in 1971, and Indiana University in 1976. After earning his Bachelor of Arts, Roland bravely served our country in the United States Army, 1st Infantry Division from 1977-1987, and later the Army Reserves until 2025. His service was marked by the same commitment and dedication he brought to every endeavor. After his military service, Roland embarked on a second career as a substitute teacher in the South Bend Community School Corp, a role he cherished for 15 years. His passion for teaching, his love for his students, and his commitment to education were hallmarks of his career. His commitment to serving others extended beyond his professional life, as he devoted his time volunteering to the cause of Sickle Cell Anemia, offering support and hope to many.

Roland Ellis is survived by his children, Pastor Roland M. Ellis III, Melanie Ellis both of South Bend, IN., and Lorraine Ellis of Kokomo, IN; his sisters, Judith Walton of South Bend, IN., and Dr. Rosalind (James) Ellis-Husband of Granger, IN; his 10 grandchildren; Sondra, Aiyanna, Damari, Roland, Trinity, Talean, Casey, Calleiya, McKenzie, Malcolm and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Sr. and Mabel Ellis; his son, Michael Ellis; and his brothers, Michael Tidwell and Richard Ellis.

We encourage all who knew Roland Ellis to leave memories and upload photos on his memorial page. His life was an example of service, dedication, and resilience, and his memory will continue to inspire and uplift us.
