Roland Libby Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hickey Memorial Chapels - Blue Island on Oct. 27, 2025.
Roland "Rocky" G. Libby, age 75 of Blue Island passed away October 25, 2025
Proud father of Rocky "Junior" Libby, Michael (Mary) Libby and Erin "Punkin" (Pat) Disabato. Caring brother of Judy and the late Robert and Jackie. Committed brother-in-law to Barbara, Robert, Janice and Diane. Loving uncle RoRo to Laura (Jeff) and the late Jeffrey and Susan (David), along with Lance and Alyssa. Great uncle to Garrett and Kendal. Devoted grandpa "gramps" to Conor, John and Josie. Doting son to the late Alice (nee Mahar) and Robert Libby. Loyal friend and confidant to many. He is lovingly remembered by his former wife Karen, with whom he shared many special years and a beautiful family.
Rocky started his career by following in the footsteps of his father and brother, working for the Rock Island Railroad at age 18. Soon after, he went on to work as a part-time officer with the Calumet Park Police Department in 1973. In 1975, he entered the police academy in Champaign, and eventually became a proud full-time officer with the Blue Island Police Department, He rose through the ranks and served in many roles over the years, including head of security for Dwight D. Eisenhower H.S. and finishing out his career as Deputy Chief. He was also a member of the Emerald Society of Illinois, where he served as their 4th President from 1988 to 1990.
After retirement from the police department in 2004, Rocky filled his days by working as a ranger for The Meadows Golf Course and also for Cinder Ridge. In most recent years, he could be found at O'Connell's Pub Time in Blue Island, where he worked and shared many laughs, stories and good times with friends old and new. In his leisure, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going to his camper in Wilmington, visiting his favorite "spots", and patrolling the area to his very last days. He remained a proud and loyal resident of Blue Island, and prided himself on being one of the few to help keep the lights on in town.
Visitation Monday, November 3, 2025, from 2 PM until time of Funeral Service at 8 PM at Hickey Memorial Chapel 2429 W. 127th St. Blue Island, IL 60406.

He was a great guy. Lived right down the street from him, growing up.
He was also security at my high school in the early 1990s.
