Rolf Daniel Peterson, a remarkable and multifaceted soul, passed away after a hard but short battle with cancer on February 16, 2024, in
Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 72. Born on July 14, 1951, in
Detroit, Michigan, to Norman and Charlotte (Yake) Peterson who preceded him in death, with his brothers, Eric, Jule, and Arne.
A graduate of Lexington High School, Rolf continued his academic pursuits at The University of Michigan. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to service were evident in his diverse career later earning a Master's in divinity. Rolf was a true jack of all trades: a respected pastor, skilled electrician, creative marketer, and dedicated politician. His unwavering patriotism was demonstrated through his proud service in the U.S. Navy, and he continued to serve his community by driving a bus during his retirement years.
Rolf found his soulmate in Meeghan, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and purpose. They met through an article in the paper about the "Man about the House" during his politician days and got married on May 28, 1983 surrounded by the ones who loved them. Their union was blessed with four children: Hans (Peg) Peterson, Tara (Bill) Miekka, Ian (Danika) Peterson, and Sarah Peterson. Rolf was a cherished grandfather to Maddison Miekka, Elizabeth Miekka, Malayah Peterson, Azariah Peterson, and Liorah Peterson. His role as a family man was at the heart of his existence, and the times spent with his grandchildren were among his most treasured moments.
A man of deep faith, Rolf was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. His devotion extended to various Christian organizations, including Promise Keepers, Gideons, and Awana. Rolf's love for the Lord was an integral part of his being, and he dedicated much of his time to studying the scriptures, missions, and sharing his faith with others.
Rolf's interests were as varied as his talents. A lifelong Michigan Wolverines supporter, he bled maize and blue. His love for reading was matched only by his passion for the outdoors, where he would often be found hunting or walking the beach with his beloved dogs. He had a special knack for baking pies and constructing gingerbread houses, activities that brought joy to many, especially during the holidays.
An avid fan of Taylor Swift, football, and baseball games, Rolf's enthusiasm for life was infectious. He was a natural storyteller, and his tales will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of hearing them. His commitment to coaching sports was another avenue through which he positively influenced the lives of many young individuals.
Rolf was a man of intelligence, imbued with a loving and faith-filled spirit. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was one of his greatest gifts. To know Rolf was to experience genuine warmth and kindness, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Visitation will be held at Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel on Sunday, February 18 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 19 at 11:00am at Calvary Baptist Church in Lansing with the family receiving friends starting at 10:00am. Burial will immediately follow the service at Gunnisonville Cemetery in Dewitt Township.
As we bid farewell to Rolf Daniel Peterson, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life that was a testament to the power of love, faith, and service.
