Roman Dopilka
Roman Dopilka, age 78, of Fairfield, the beloved husband of Olga (Dzieciuch) Dopilka for over fifty-eight years, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Born in Germany, Roman immigrated to the United States in 1950. He was a graduate of the Brooklyn High School of Automotive Trades, class of 1966. Roman then served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War in Del Rio, TX. Prior to his retirement, he worked for UPS as an Automotive Supervisor, for thirty years.
Roman had a love for sports, especially soccer. He was captain of his HS soccer team, played semiprofessional ball for a Ukrainian social club and helped a Brooklyn P.A.L team finish first. He loved coaching his son's soccer teams and Little League baseball teams and was a great at it. Roman loved to fish, hunt and go clamming. Always the mechanic, he enjoyed building flying models and working on cars and trucks. He often (some would say too often) loved to debate about politics (if you followed him on Facebook you know all too well). Roman was a proud Ukranian. He loved his family deeply, was a loyal friend, husband, father, brother and uncle, he was loved, gone too soon, he will be missed.
In addition to his wife, Roman is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Markowich and her husband, John of Loudonville, NY; two sons, Paul Dopilka of Fairfield and Michael Dopilka and his wife, Jen of Paradise, TX. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Alexandra and Johnny Markowich and Sophia, Olivia and Lillian Dopilka; his brother, Myron Dopilka and his sister, Mary Dopilka, both of upstate NY; his sister-in-law, Irene Kelemen and her husband, Kenneth of Fairfield along with his nieces, nephew and their families.
Friends may greet his family on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Panachyda Service at 6:00 p.m. at the Shaughessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
