RON SPENCE Obituary

SPENCE, Ron Ron Spence, 90, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Born in Everett, MA he was the son of the late Cecil and Emma (Anderson) Spence. He was the beloved husband of Brenda (Stead) Spence, whom he shared 28 years of marriage with. During and after graduation from Everett High, Ron worked at the Everett National Bank as a note teller. When he was drafted in 1953 they held position for him. He was very proud that as a draftee serving in Korea, he left the army in 1956 as a Staff Sergeant. A story he told on many occasions, the only time he was shot at while serving in Korea, was when, and will try to be polite, "coming home from a house of ill repute" having to dive headfirst into the rice patties. He truly enjoyed this story. He worked at Saugus Bank and Trust for many years as the head loan officer. While still working at the bank, his first venture into entrepreneurship was the purchase of the River Bend Motel in Newington, NH. Then in 1976 he purchased Lakeview Motor Lodge, in Beverly, which became Beverly Garden Suites because his wife decided it needed a name change. He also owned Sir John on route one in Peabody with his business partner and one of his best friends, Jack Spinazzola. An active member of Saugus Rotary for 41 years and district treasurer of Rotary International. Ron and Brenda were together for 42 wonderful years. They enjoyed so many things together, family vacations and traveling all over the world. No two people were more suited for each other. He will be missed greatly. In addition to his wife Ron is survived by three daughters, Lynne Spence of Pittsfield VT, Lisa Murrin and her Husband Paul of North Reading, Lori Spence and her fiancé Shane L'Heureux of Bedford, NH; two wonderful Grandchildren, Rachael and Spencer Murrin of North Reading; His former wife Lois Spence of Stoneham. He was Pre-deceased by his sister Lorraine Holt and her former husband Jack. His funeral service will be held at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Tuesday, March 7th at 11:00am. Visiting Hours on Monday, March 6th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Ron always made me smile.
I´ve known him for as long as I´ve known Brenda...for many years...lots of smiles!
When asked, Ron was always most generous in sharing his financial advice and skills with me, assuring me that I was in "solid financial shape".
With affection,
Susan Kerwin... FF#2
