Rona Fay Chapmon Long, 93, of Nacogdoches, TX passed away May 21, 2024 in Nacogdoches. She was born October 1, 1930 in Wells, TX to Elza and Zuela Hill Chapmon.
Rona is a member of Rusk First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Wells High School in 1948 and married Robert Allen Long August 3, 1950 in Rusk. He preceded her in death in January of 1993. She graduated as a nurse aide in 1967 and as a LVN in 1971. She retired as LVN Charge Nurse in 1994. She is a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #438 Nacogdoches, TX. She held various positions such as the Worthy Matron, and Co. State officer of Ruth. She is a former member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Red Hatters Club.
She loved to travel, seeing new places and shopping. Travelling during the early fall so she could always see the change of colors and it was her favorite time of the year. She grew up in Texas, moved to Colorado in the 50's and back to Texas in 1978.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Lois Garner and husband Earl, Leisa Feda and husband Mike; grandchildren: Russell Garner and wife Lisa, James Garner and wife Erin, Amanda Kratz and husband Jason, Nick Feda and significant other Star Lu; great grandchildren: Jack Garner and wife Shelby, Briley Garner, Madison Garner, Mackenzie Garner, Connerr Kratz, Abrielle Kratz, Charlotte Garner, Elizabeth Garner, Jules Lu; great great grandchild, Ridge Garner. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 42 years, Robert Allen Long; brothers: E.W. and Robert Chapmon, and sisters: Charlene Long and Mary Adams.
A celebration of Rona's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Chapel of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, 221 West 5th Street, Rusk, TX, with a time of visitation starting at 1. Interment will be at Ceder Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/donate.
