Ronald Abbe Obituary

Owatonna - Ronald (Ron) Abbe, 84, of Owatonna, MN, died on October 7, 2025, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna. Friends may greet the family three hours prior to the funeral service from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at church.

He was born on March 10, 1941, in Waseca, MN to Melvin and Ordena (Schley) Abbe. Ron was the first born of six kids. He attended grade school at District 48 in Meridan, MN, and graduated from the Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca in 1959. He married Darlene "Dolly" Walker on April 20, 1963, at United Methodist Church in Owatonna, MN. Ron farmed with his dad and on his own for seven years. He also worked for a year on a natural gas pipeline and drove Taystee Bread truck. In 1972, Ron began his career in the concrete business - driving ready-mix truck for 22 years, then managing Steele-Rice Supply for 20 plus years. Ron was especially proud of the business relationships he made over the years. Ron and Dolly made their home southeast of Owatonna, near Pratt, on a small hobby farm where they raised their five children until 1988. They later moved into Owatonna.

Ron enjoyed visiting with people and took pride in his work experiences. He enjoyed watching sports, news and playing football boards.

A devoted family man, he loved his family! He always kept up with what each family member was up to in their life/career and beamed with pride at their successes.

Ron was known for his sarcastic one-liners, and quick wit! A great storyteller, he'd laugh so hard!! He told many stories of the shenanigans growing up.

Ron and Dolly loved driving around the Owatonna area looking at crops. He knew Steele County like the back of his hand as he delivered concrete for so many years. He would often reminisce the many travels he and his wife Dolly went on over the years.

Ron is survived by his five children, James (Lori) Abbe, Rhonda (Doug Wencl) Spatenka, John (Paula) Abbe, Annette (Dave) Spatenka, and Therese (Tim) Wagaman; thirteen grandchildren: Libby (Riley) Burns, Erin (Jake) Hartmann, Katelyn (Trinity) Emery, Landon Spatenka, Aaron (Katie) Niles, Samantha (Dustin) Pettit, Jack Abbe, Lillian Abbe, Julia (Fiancé Joseph Reeves) Spatenka, Jessica Spatenka, Jenna Spatenka, Natalie Wagaman, and Hailey Wagaman; and seven great-grandchildren: Hannley Emery, Kellin Emery, Amelia Spatenka, Atlas Spatenka, Huxley Pettit, Valerie Burns, and Haven Niles. He is also survived by his sisters: Linda Wilkenson, Joyce (Borris) Mokoff, and Marilyn Pirkl; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dolly, parents, his sister Janet Priebe, his brother Robert "Bob" Abbe, and a great-grandson, Jaydon.
