Ronald Carl Berg was born on December 13, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Harvey Carroll Berg and Florence Cecelia Kliesner. Ron was united in marriage to Lilly Margaret Lystad on March 6, 1964.
Ron graduated from St. Paul high school in 1952. In 1957, Ron was drafted into the army for two years. He ended up in Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was a lithographic plate maker. After his stint in the Army, Ron began working at Cargill in Fort Savage for two years, until layoffs occurred. Ron then joined the Air Force then in 1961 and served through 1964. There, he got his radar technician training and was eventually stationed in Baudette from February, 1962 to April, 1964 with the 692 Radar Squadron. In town, he met Lilly who was working at the Rex Cafe. After ten or more refills of coffee, he finally asked her out to go to the Baudette Rodeo with him. The rest soon fell into place, and they were married on March 6, 1964 in a church ceremony at Evangelical Covenant church in Baudette. Dad was stationed soon after in the Philippines before leaving the Air Force in 1964. Ron then worked at Univac for five years while also going to the U of M for a forestry degree. He graduated in 1971 with his degree. Ron worked with the Soil Conservation Service in Missouri for roughly five years, before returning to Minnesota and beginning his work with Marvin Windows where he worked for 24 years until he retired at age 65. Over the years Ron enjoyed volunteering in many different ways. Up north he was a Boy Scout leader; Williams Gun club treasurer; church: deacon, teacher, and board member at Williams Assembly of God church; a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League; and driver for Social Services. In Little Falls, Ron was a board member and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, a volunteer at the New 2 You store supporting the local Boys and Girls Club, a member of the American Legion, and a member and volunteer at Grace Covenant Church. Ron lived his life with a strong faith in Jesus and a love for helping others.
Survivors include: wife Lilly Berg; children, Peter (Melissa) Berg of Ft. Ripley, Minnesota and Christina (Mark) Hansen of St. Cloud, Minnesota; brother Jim (Mary Kruger) Berg; and four grandchildren, Isaiah, Jonah, Martha, and Katrina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Florence.
