Obituary of Ronald H. Black
Ronald H. Black, 87, of
Lititz, PA, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday morning, January 31, 2026, at Moravian Manor, after several years of challenge with dementia, compounded by a severe stroke. Born in
Spring City, PA, he was the only child of the late Scott M. Black (who passed away when Ron was only 4 years old) and the late Celia Black Daugherty. He was the devoted husband of Barbara Hilborn Black of Lititz, who passed away on March 28, 2025. Ron and Barb were high school sweethearts and were inseparable for more than 66 years. They lived most of their married life and raised their children in the Spring City and Pottstown areas.
Ron was a 1956 graduate of Spring-Ford High School. Prior to moving to Lititz, he was an active member of Royersford United Methodist Church. Ron (known by many as, "Blackie") served in the US Air Force, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. Upon discharge, he became an Insurance Broker and Real Estate Broker, and for most of his professional career was the owner of the Ron Black Agency, with offices in Spring City and Royersford, PA. Ron and Barb worked side by side for more than 25 years in the Agency.
Ron was a long-time committed member of the Spring-Ford Rotary Club and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He was also active in the Spring Ford Community Chest and served for many years on the Agents' Council for Traveler's Insurance Company.
In addition to enjoying travelling, Ron prioritized time with his grandchildren. Having a home in the woods, he was infamous for making the "biggest leaf piles ever" for the grandkids to jump into. Ron and Barb combined their passions for travel and their grandkids by hosting annual family vacations to both
Ocean City, NJ and Walt Disney World. They followed Philadelphia sports teams and for many years had season tickets to the Philadelphia Flyers at the Spectrum ["Section V, Row 9, Seats 11 and 12," right on the Blue Line]. Ron and Barb particularly enjoyed watching ladies' professional golf and regularly travelled to LPGA tournaments across the country.
He is survived by two children, Brian S. Black (Vegee Sardi-Black) of Lititz, and Beth A. Bott (Michael A. Jeanette) of Haddonfield, NJ; six grandchildren, Aaron Black (Laura), Daniel Black (Hannah), Brandon Bott, Amanda Baum (Bryton), Adam Black (Samantha), and Nick Hoffmaster; three great grandchildren, Wesley and Sawyer Baum and Averi Black; and was anticipating the birth of a fourth great grandchild in early April 2026. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Calvin Daugherty, and a daughter-in-law, Laurie Sheeler Black.
The family is grateful beyond words for the incredible love and support provided to Ron by the staff of Moravian Manor – particularly the team in Herrnhut South. Herrnhut South became his home – and the place where Ron was surrounded 24/7 with everything that he could have ever asked for as he journeyed ever deeper into dementia. The family is also grateful for the care provided to Ron in the last month of his life by the Masonic Village Hospice team.
The family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate Ron's life and his impact. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to the Benevolent Care Fund of Moravian Manor Communities (300 W. Lemon Street,
Lititz, PA 17543 or www.moravianmanorcommunities.org). To express condolences to the family, please visit www.spencefuneralservices.com.
