Ronald "Ron" Brown was born in Laramie, Wyoming and died July 27, 2025, in Apple Valley, MN.
Ron had a trove of life history in Wyoming. His experiences populated his love of his birth state. When his father worked as a welder for the Ohio Oil Company, the Brown family relocated to several different oil fields in southern Wyoming before being assigned to the Grass Creek, Wyoming oil field when Ron was 10. Ron and his family ultimately moved from Wyoming to Nebraska where he graduated from Sidney High School and went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming. The next chapter for Ron was the Navy Officers Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI where upon completion of the school he was commissioned Ensign and assigned to the USS Merrick AKA97 based in Long Beach, California. Ron was proud of his military service: three years of active duty and twenty years of reserve. He retired in the early 90's as LTCDR-R. Ron worked at CF&I Steel in Pueblo, Colorado in the 1960s and 1970s and then began 20 years of work at 3M Company until he retired in the late 90's.
Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years Debbie, Eagan, MN, his sister Bonnie Dean, Greeley, Colorado, his daughter Cynthia (Chris) Cockrill and his grandsons Christian Cockrill and Tanner Cockrill and granddaughter Emma Cockrill of Lakeville MN, his son Greg (Terri Folk), granddaughter Ainsley Brown and grandson Prewitt Brown of Alexandria, VA.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Project and University of Wyoming School of Engineering.
Funeral Service 10:30 AM Monday, August 11th at St. David's Episcopal Church, 13000 St. Davids Rd, Minnetonka. Private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
