Ronald Callis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ransdell Funeral Home - Bedford on Mar. 30, 2026.
Ronald Dale "Ron" Callis, age 77, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the Richwood Nursing and Rehab Center in LaGrange. Kentucky. Born October 4, 1948 in Prestonville, Kentucky, he was the son of Buell B. and Grace H. Wiley Callis.

Mr. Callis was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in during the Viet Nam Conflict, and was stationed in Hopewell, Virginia. He retired in 1997 from the assembly line at the Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Kentucky after twenty-five years of service. He formerly worked for the Kentucky Department of Corrections in LaGrange.

In his early years, he was a talented artist, enjoying drawing and painting. Although he was an amputee, he was known for walking, riding a bicycle for miles, and roller skating. He enjoyed yard sales, bargaining and trading, visiting, problem solving, and animals, including pheasants, chickens, goats, miniature horses and rabbits.

He encouraged his grandchildren's curiosity and passion while they were growing up. He loved them very much and always made to tell them.

His surviving family includes his wife, the former Tanyia Garrett; two daughters and sons-in-law: Tammy and Lance Hancock of Chester, Virginia, and Jennifer and William Spillman of Milton, Kentucky; one son and daughter-in-law: Ronnie and Michelle Callis of Bedford; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary and Jackie Callis of Milton, and Terry "T" and Virginia Callis of Madison, Indiana; and five grandchildren: Olivia, Tanner and Billy Spillman, Samantha Callis, and Drew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Michael Callis; one brother, Charles "Chuck" Callis; one grandson, Alex; and one sister-in-law, Tammy Callis.
