Ronald W. Cavinder, affectionately known as "Rotten Ron" by those who knew him best, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the VNA Hospice. Born on July 10, 1941, in Hammond, Indiana.
Ronald's journey began as the son of Hobart Cavinder and Martha (Hittle) Cavinder, who preceded him in death. He grew up in a time of great change, but he always held onto the values of love, family, and hard work. Ronald's steadfast presence was a cornerstone to his beloved wife, Darlene Cavinder (Moore), whom he married in Lake Station, Indiana, on June 5, 1982. Together, they navigated the waters of life's challenges and celebrations with grace and humor.
A proud father, Ronald's legacy lives on through his children, Timothy (Pam) Cavinder, Danny (Jennifer) Cavinder, Douglas (Nancy) Egolf, Michael (Laurie) Cavinder, Scott (Beth) Cavinder, and David (Evelyn) Cavinder. He was a cherished brother to his sister, Carol Jean Bryant. His grandchildren, Wesley, Eian, Elias, Danny JR., Noah, Trevor (Anna), Kasey, Riley (Mackenzie), Jessica, Triston (Lana), Damon, and Dustin, as well as his great-grandchildren, Henry and Tori, will forever hold onto the memories of their grandpa's loving guidance and playful spirit. Ronald's extended family of brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, too, felt the warmth of his thoughtful attention.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Cavinder
Before retiring in 1986, Ronald dedicated many years as a Coil Inspector at Inland Steel.
Ronald's interests were as vast as the Indiana skies he so loved. He was an avid collector of cans, a hobby driven by his desire to contribute to his grandchildren's education. His love for dancing, fishing, camping, and boating reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Ronald's enjoyment of music and outdoor activities was infectious, and he was always ready to share these passions with friends and family alike.
Ronald's sense of humor brought light to even the darkest of days. His laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to hear it, and his jovial nature was a gift to the world.
As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the memories he has left behind, the lives he has touched, and the profound impact he has made on his family and everyone who knew him. Ronald's spirit will forever dance in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 E Morthland Dr., Valparaiso. A visitation and viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at the cemetery.
