Abbeville- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Wayne Choate, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 75. Ronald was born on August 29, 1950, in Abbeville, LA, and spent his life in the community of Erath, LA, where he embraced every moment with a smile and a hearty laugh.
Funeral services officiated by Pastor Jeremy Cupp will take place on October 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 09, 2025 at Vincent Funeral Home from 9:30 am until time of service. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery, where family and friends can join together to celebrate his life and the joy he brought to all those who knew him.
Ronald was a dedicated welder and fitter in the oil field industry, a profession he was truly passionate about. Known for his great sense of humor, he had a special talent for making those around him smile, and he hated to see anyone feeling down. His love for family was evident in every BBQ gathering they shared, where he could often be found cheering on his New Orleans Saints with unwavering loyalty.
Ronald leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley Duplantis Choate, who enriched his life in countless ways. He is also survived by his three children, Consuela Broussard, April Renee Suire, and Dayna Bodin (Chad); his stepchildren, Nanette Guidry (Shane), Jill Bourque (Michael), and Rodney "Bubba" Dubois Jr. (Carla); as well as his cherished grandchildren, Jared Broussard, Collin Broussard, Nick Suire, Emily Suire, Caleb Suire, Chloe Savoy, Ava Domingue, Ashton Romero, and Carter Bodin. He also proudly welcomed step-grandchildren Devan Guidry, Noah Dubois, Grant Bourque, Lanie Dubois, and Landon Dubois, as well as his dear great-grandchild, Emberlynn Guidry; and sister, Phyllis Luna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oran Choate and Ursula Theall; and siblings, Ursula Byrd, Robert Choate, Sr., Douglas Choate, and Cheryl Choate.
In these moments of sorrow, we hold onto the laughter, love, and memories Ron gifted us. He will be deeply missed but will always remain in our hearts.
