Ronald DeGenaro passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
He was born in a house in Follansbee, W.Va., in 1940, on Halloween. His day of birth made it easy on us to remember his birthday, just like he made it easy for us to live our lives.
A son of the late Joseph DeGenaro and Loretta Bania DeGenaro. He then moved to Pittsburgh as a teen and became a lifelong "Pittsburgher".
After graduating from Brentwood High School, he served his country honorably in the Korean Conflict for the United States Army.
Upon returning home he leveraged the GI bill to enter an associate's mainframe computing program at the University of Pittsburgh. The combination of training and education allowed him to support his family throughout his lifetime.
A longtime resident of Peters Township for almost 50 years, Ron loved nothing more than working in the yard, being a humble member of his community and hosting family events at his home.
Ron was a loyal Pittsburgh Sports fan, rooting for the local teams through the good and the bad. However, the support he showed these teams was just practice. Where he really excelled was supporting his family and friends, in the best way that he could, throughout his entire life. May we all continue that legacy for our remaining days.
In 1964, Ron married his beloved wife of 55 years, Davalyn Kaecher DeGenaro, who passed away in 2019. They had two children, Steven DeGenaro and wife, Ellen, and Jennifer Comerford and husband, Jeff.
He is also survived by his brothers, Richard DeGenaro and his wife, Patricia of Florida, and Joseph DeGenaro and his wife, Nancy of Pittsburgh. He was a loving Pap Pap to Katherine, Hannah and Felicity DeGenaro, and Jordyn Comerford; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a casual celebration of life, at the family home, on Saturday, November 25th. Refreshments will be served between 2 and 5 p.m. Those that would like to attend, but need directions, should reach out to a family member for those details.
Donations in his memory may be made to Thomas Presbyterian Church, 1068 Linden Road, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
