Ronald Deuel Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Ronald Frederic "Ron" Deuel, of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born on May 19, 1935, in Utica, New York, to the late Doris (Van Dervoort) and Arnold L. Deuel.
A man who truly lived life to the fullest, Ronald was the devoted husband of Barbara A. Deuel for 67 years. He was a loving father to Cynthia (Scott) Lehman, Linda (Michael) Barnhart, Gregory (Carolee) Deuel, and Sharon (Douglas) Reimold. He took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Ryan Turner, Rachael (Justin) Covington, Emily (Michael) Burkentine, Alexander Deuel, and Elizabeth (Bryan) Whaley. He was further blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Rowen and Crew Burkentine, Avery and Grayson Covington, and Michael, Grace, Emma, and Connor Whaley. He is survived by his dear sister, Barbara (Harold) White, and preceded in death by his brother Brian (Dorothy) Deuel.
Ronald's journey began in Utica, New York, where he graduated from Utica Free Academy High School in 1954. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician, stationed at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and later at the Naval Base, Okinawa, Japan. As a radio communications officer on a P2-V aircraft, he flew reconnaissance missions over the Sea of Japan, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. After four years of dedicated service, he returned to Washington State, where he married his beloved Barbara on August 2, 1958. The couple then settled in Utica, NY, to start their family.
His professional life was marked by a keen mechanical aptitude and by his electronics training, which he applied at various companies, including Mohawk Data Sciences (MDS), AmTote, A&A/Parkway Machine, and Elsner Engineering. The family relocated to Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, in 1977, and later to Dallastown, Pennsylvania, in 1995. In 2005, Ronald and Barbara retired to the beautiful Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. A Mason since 1969, he transferred his membership and earned his 32nd degree at the Elizabethtown chapter.
Beyond his professional and military life, Ronald was a fun-loving man of many passions. He enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, woodworking, camping, and RV'ing. He will be remembered as a kind-hearted, skilled individual who could fix nearly anything, a loving husband, and an exceptional father figure. His presence will be profoundly missed.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Ronald's life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 10:00AM at the Sell Chapel of the Masonic Village, 200 Freemason Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Pastor Deborah Valiton-Carnish officiating. Masonic Rites provided by the Red Lion Lodge No. 649 F&AM and Military Honors provided by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard will be begin the service at 10:00AM. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium of the Masonic Village. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 9:00AM – 10:00AM prior to the service in the Sell Chapel.
