Ronald Dewey, age 90, passed away on April 25, 2025.

Son of Daniel V. and Georgia Dewey, dear brother to Daniel G. (Jeanne) Dewey. Father of Laura (Daniel) Pallotta, Pamela (Jeff) Dewey, Gregory Dewey, and Sofia Dewey. Grandfather to Andy (Alyssa) Pallotta, Dan Pallotta, Aaron Pfeffer, and Ellen Wentz.

Ron was a lifelong artist, free spirit, and true creative. His commercial foundries – Studio Foundry and Light Sculpture Works – kept bronze casting alive in Northeast Ohio and provided a generation of artists with an education in the craft. Ron was a believer in fresh starts. He employed the formerly incarcerated and addicted, veterans, and cats frozen half to death in the middle of Cleveland winters. When you pour bronze you sweat – you lose all the salt in your body and get exhausted. But you make something. You get clean at the end; you get a second chance. His work and teaching welcomed anyone who sought it out. He was a lover of Chopin, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninoff; of butter pecan ice cream (any ice cream, really); of his hometown, Ludington, Michigan; of thunderstorms, astrology, and the power of the universe. Ron embodied the kindness and curiosity that he wished to see in the world, and leaves behind a legacy of community-building, art, and friendship. His favorite color was violet.
