Ronald Donovan Obituary

Baltic - Ronald Francis Donovan, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Baltic, surrounded by his loving family Dec. 30, 2025. Born in Norwich June 2, 1950, Ron was the son of Michael Francis and Stacia (Kurdziel) Donovan. He attended St. Patrick's Cathedral School and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1968.

He proudly served in the Army National Guard and was a Knight of the Third Degree with the Taftville Knights of Columbus. Ron worked as a steamfitter and was a member of CT Steamfitters Local 218 and 777; he later became a day-one employee in the Engineering Department at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Ron was an avid golfer and member of the Norwich Golf Course, he found joy in gardening, cheering for the New York Yankees and UConn basketball teams, and playing Santa Claus at the Taftville Knights of Columbus. Above all, he cherished attending his grandsons' performances and sporting events-they lovingly called him "Poppy."

He is survived by his partner of 36 years, Donna Landry; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Anthony Zeppieri; grandsons Alex and Jack; brothers, M. William (Lorraine), Edward J. (Irene), and Duane Donovan; sister-in-law Sharon (David) Preble and their daughter Hannah (Christopher) Coker; nephew Michael; nieces, Libby, Denise, Sharon, Sandy, their children, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Barbara Donovan; niece Kelley Dwyer; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate caregivers from Hartford Healthcare and Hospice that cared for Ron at home. We wish to recognize Marie, Payton, Kevin, Cody, Jessica, Ashley, Sara, and Rev. Cyril Malonev of Colchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405 or a charity of your choice.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Knights of Columbus, 47 South 2nd Ave., Taftville, CT. A burial service will be held at a later date.

Dear Donna, Lisa and Tony, Alex and Jack, and the Donovan and Preble families. It's with tears in my eyes that I send you love, prayers and strength. I can't believe our guys both passed in December, 2025! I will always remember Ron and Jerry calling each other "Mortimer" whenever they called each other up on the telephone. I never knew the reason behind that but I can still hear them saying it to each other! Can you just picture Jerry greeting Ron "Mortimer, you finally got here". My deepest sympathy. My heart is breaking. I love you!
