Ronald D. Dugas was born in Wiesbaden, Germany on August 3,1949. His father was Joe Ronald Girard Dugas, from Berlin New Hampshire, a Sergent in the US Airforce stationed in Germany. His mother was Gerda Augusta Gehringer Dugas from Wiesbaden, Germany. Ron's dad Ronald Sr was in the Air Force when he met and married Gerda Gehringer.
Ron was the oldest of 7 boys: Ron, Billy, Paul, Larry, Michael, Steven and Eddie. Ron is preceded in death by his parents and 4 of his brothers: Billy, Paul, Steven and Eddie. Only Larry and Michael (Mike) remain. Mike told me that Ron was the 'Leader of the Pack' of us 7 boys and a great big brother. He was always ready to step in to back up us younger ones.
Ron and his girlfriend Michelle moved from Houston,Texas to Eugene, Oregon in 1970 when he was 21 years old to attend the U of O and study Architecture. Ron married Michelle and together they had a son: Jeremiah Mountain Dugas in 1976.
I (Rachel Miller) met Ron in May 2013 at Country Line Dance Class. I am so blessed to have had his friendship for 11 years. Ron was the most compassionate, intelligent, kind human being I ever met.
Ron helped me find employment where he worked for 13 years at EGI (Electrical Geodesics Incorporated) building HCGSN (Hydro Cell Geodesic Sensor Nets) to monitor brain activity, specializing in Epilepsy, Depression, Autism, Strokes and Sleep Studies. EGI sold out to PHILIPS and the Company moved to England the end of 2020. I owe it to Ron for that experience which broadened my knowledge far beyond my 'farm-girl' country upbringing. I appreciate the opportunity to work at EGI for 5.5 years, July 2015-Dec 2020.
I recall Ron's Woodworking projects, his Carpenter skills in building onto my Chicken Coop last summer and making my Garden Tomato and Pole Bean 8 foot Extensions.
Ron loved the finer things in life: Music, Art and Literature. Ron always had a stack of good books that he was reading. He loved playing his guitar and helping our granddaughters with Art Projects. Ron taught the (pre-school) girls to enjoy NATURE and appreciate the simple things of life that cost no money but fascinated them; such as watching a caterpillar crawl, examining the veins in a leaf, and gazing up into the stars at night.
Ron was a Poet, a Musician and a Songwriter. A few weeks ago when Ron was bed-fast he wrote the 3rd verse to the song "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban:
"In this world there's but an endless searching
For a peace that here can never be,
In my heart I truly feel a yearning
To be at Home at last to Walk with Thee'.
(Ron Dugas 04/16/24) Ron never once complained about his Bone Marrow Cancer, (also known as Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis) which he fought bravely for the past 3.5 years. Ron was first diagnosed in November 2020. He did extraordinarily well due to his choice to stop Chemo Treatments and balance Quality of Life with Longevity.
I'm really sad that Ron is gone but I am overjoyed that he is in the presence of his Heavenly Father. I cherish the memories with Ron and the impact he had on my life. People who genuinely want to help others are few. Ron always wanted to help, share, give even if it meant getting nothing in return.
