Ronald Exline Obituary

Ronald Edward Exline

Army Veteran, Former Mayor and City Commissioner of Lake Worth Beach, Florida and Aurora, Illinois.

Ronald Edward Exline passed away on the morning of April 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He was a proud Army veteran and a dedicated public servant who held leadership roles as mayor and city commissioner in both Aurora, Illinois, and Lake Worth Beach, Florida.

Born September 21, 1934, and raised in Aurora, Illinois, Ron grew up on a farm with his mother, Ethel Mae Exline, and his grandparents, Henry and Amanda Exline. He excelled in school, particularly in debate and football, and developed a passion for public service early in life. Ron served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

After his military service, Ron returned home and embarked on a varied and successful career. He owned and operated a trucking business, worked in real estate, served as a police officer, and went on to become a two-term mayor in both Aurora and Lake Worth Beach. Over more than 35 years of civic involvement, Ron became known for his open-door policy, and as a tireless and compassionate advocate for veterans, families, the elderly, education, and fair city governance.

Ron moved to Lake Worth Beach in 1975, where he continued his political and civic engagement. He was also involved in the film industry, serving as a logistics planner and cast member in the 1981 movie Body Heat, and 1983 movie Harry and Sons, filmed in Lake Worth Beach. Ron often crossed paths with international dignitaries and film stars, including Paul Newman, but remained humble.

Ron was first married to Carol Ann Boone, with whom he shared many years. He was preceded in death by Carol Ann; his beloved mother; and grandparents. In later years, he shared his life with his childhood sweetheart, Betty Ann Anderson, with whom he spent 35 joyful years in Florida until her passing in 2022.

Beyond his public life, Ron served as president and board member of his condominium association, where he was known for his unwavering dedication to residents. He had a zest for life and enjoyed music, dancing, the arts, camping and bingo.

Ron will be remembered for his charisma, compassion, and innate leadership.

He will be laid to rest with military honors at the National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. A private celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a veterans' charity in Ron's memory.
