Ronald James Farmer, 74, of Anawalt, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at his home after a brief battle with dementia and his home.

Born on September 7, 1951 to James and Lois (Hedrick) Farmer in Welch. He graduated from Gary High School in 1969 and joined the US Army on his 18th birthday. He was a proud Vietnam veteran serving in the 173 Airborne and the 82 Airborne in Ft. Bragg after a tour in Vietnam. After the Army, Ronnie held many positions in coal mining retiring from XMV 35 in 2010.

He was preceded in death in death by his parents, one sister Regina and husband Ron; 2 brothers, several brothers in law, father and mother in law, 1 sister in law, 2 nieces and 2 nephews and best buddy Ellie.

He is survived by his devoted wife of over 51 years, Diane Lambert, the delight of his life; his daughter and caregiver, Rosanna and his much loved son in law Daniel Scott; one brother, Ricky; special nephews Ted, Travis Hedrick, Oren Lance; and deceased Jeff; special nieces, Paula and Abby; other nieces and nephews, veteran group friends, childhood friends, and former co-workers.

After retirement, Ronnie enjoyed the time spent with his wife and daughter and son in law, and also going to meetings with his weekly veterans groups; going to Dillons Texaco. He spent time everyday feeding all of the various animals around his home and went often to feed stray dogs and cats along the road. He loved watching all of the animals out of the window. He was a faithful Mountaineer football fan and NASCAR fan. He was looking forward to a road trip with Rosanna to join Daniel out west to go fishing this summer.

Due to inclement weather, services are incomplete at this time. No flowers are requested. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.

Only fond memories and prayers are needed. Also thanks to the many people who helped to get him home and Rosanna and Daniel for their many hours spent with him at the hospital. Also, special thanks to Townsend for what he did.
