Ronald Leroy Ginther, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. Ron was born to Everett and Darlene (Anderson) Ginther on October 23, 1935 in Jefferson, Iowa.
Throughout his life, Ron made lasting contributions to the grocery store industry, working for reputable establishments such as Safeway and Dahls. With dedication and commitment, he served many years within this industry, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and professionalism.
On June 27, 1954, Ron married the love of his life, Barbara. Their union was one based on love and mutual respect and lasted an incredible 69 years. Together they created a beautiful family and shared countless cherished memories. Throughout their journey together, Ron and Barbara primarily resided in the Des Moines area but also spent a brief period in California.
Ron was known for his kindheartedness and considerate nature. He possessed a remarkable ability to strike up conversations with anyone about anything. His genuine interest in others made him a cherished friend to many and endeared him to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
Outside of his career and socializing with others, Ron devoted time to various hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. He was an avid sports fan, passionately cheering for teams such as the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Braves, and Iowa Hawkeyes. Ron also found excitement in attending horse races – experiencing the thrill of each race as if he were right there on the track. In addition to his passion for sports, he enjoyed bowling with friends and engaging in friendly competition. Ron's thirst for knowledge led him to read the newspaper religiously from front to back each day – making him remarkably well-informed on current events.
Ron's passing leaves a void within his family and circle of friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ginther of Waukee, Iowa. Ron's children hold cherished memories close to their hearts and will forever be grateful for the love and guidance he provided. His surviving family includes his son Frank (Kari) Ginther of New Providence, Iowa; his son Randy Ginther of West Des Moines, Iowa; his daughter Vicki Mueller of Orlando, Florida; his daughter Audra Bonner of Waukee, Iowa; and his son Dennis Ginther of Waukee, Iowa.
Ron also leaves behind a legacy through his 11 beloved grandchildren: Jennifer, Nicole, Ashley, Daniel, Bryan, Casey, Kyle, Elizabeth, Kristina, Luke, and Sam. Their lives have been immeasurably enriched by the love and wisdom imparted to them by their grandfather. Additionally, Ron's memory will live on through the joyous laughter and playful nature of his eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents Everett Ginther and Darlene Knutson, sisters Dorothy Ginther and Jan Hess, brother Bill Riesberg, and son-in-law Derek Mueller. Their fond memories will forever carry the essence of Ronald's life within them.
