Ronald "Ron" Gene Griffis, 75, of Tiffin, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics with his wife by his side.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025.

Ron was born on June 11, 1950, in North Platte, NE the son of LaVern and Lillian (Jackson) Griffis. Later, the family moved to Thornton, CO where Ron went to elementary and high school. In 1969, Ron enlisted in the Army and served his country in Vietnam until 1971. Strong advocate for veterans exposed to Agent Orange.

He married Debra Frantz on October 30, 1970, in Kitzigen, Germany and they had two sons, Stacy and Bradley.

Ron worked as a truck driver for 17 years and more recently a security officer at the University of Iowa for 19 years.

Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and rooting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Go Huskers!

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the UI Transplant Center or consider becoming an organ donor to save a life.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Debra; sons Stacy Griffis of Iowa Falls, IA and Bradley (Hope) Griffis of Tiffin, IA; grandchildren Blayze, Haley, Lane, Quincy and lily and his brother Kendall Griffis of Riverside, UT. He is also survived by numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVern and Lillian Griffis and two brothers, Edward and Robert Griffis.
