Ronald Griffis
Ronald Edward Griffis, 88, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a respected member of the community, passed away on January 4, 2026, at his home in Great Bend, Pennsylvania. Born on March 26, 1937, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, Ronald was a humble individual who dedicated his life to his family and his career.
A proud graduate of Susquehanna Community High School, Ronald went on to earn a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University in 1958. He began his professional journey at Ansco in Binghamton, New York, before embarking on a remarkable 35-year career at International Paper. Starting as a cadet engineer, Ronald worked tirelessly and retired as a manager of the engineering department, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work.
Ronald was known for his genuine and caring nature, always providing for his family and ensuring their happiness. He was an avid bowler and golfer, achieving several 300 games throughout his illustrious career in local leagues. His passion for these sports brought him joy and camaraderie with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 60 years, Roberta Griffis, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. Ronald is also survived by his sons, Jerrold and his wife Helene Griffis, as well as Brian and his wife Jennifer Griffis. His daughter, Lisa, and her husband Mike Pedro. Ronald cherished his relationships with his brothers, Jerrold (and Carol) Griffis and Vincent (and Kathy) Griffis, and was the proud grandfather of Blake, Kimberly, Patrick, and Tom, in addition to several great-grandchildren. He was also supported by his caregiver Ben Noi, whose assistance was deeply appreciated.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Cora (Bagnall) Griffis, and his grandson, Michael Fisher. He also mourned the loss of his siblings, Fred Kotz, Audrey Kerr, and Winifred Robb.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hinkley and the staff at Barnes Kasson Hospital for their excellent care.
The community is invited to honor Ronald's life at the Visitation and Funeral Service, to be held on January 11, 2026, at Hennessey's Funeral Home 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA. The visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Brushville, PA in the spring.
Ronald Edward Griffis will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His unwavering dedication to his family and his joyful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved.
